Attorney Reichel says we don’t torture in the US. Apparently he has not been keeping up with current affairs. The Biden Doctrine, as announced by the President, is that no Amendment is absolute.

Therefore, torture can be imposed as a sentence if the crime is bad enough. Unless the Biden Doctrine applies only to Republicans....

Unless the Biden Doctrine applies only to Republicans...

In any event this guy was almost certainly not a republican.

Sorting out the wandering article resolves any question as to whether this guy caught a break -

"...his most recent sentencing in 2018 to 10 years in prison after he pushed his way into his girlfriend's home, punched her, dragged her from the residence by her hair and whipped her with a belt. ...he was released from his 10-year sentence...[notwithstanding] a parole board rejected his bid for early release last May, after prosecutors said the 2017 felony assault...possessing an assault weapon and thefts, posed "a significant, unreasonable risk of safety to the community."

They were certainly prescient.
