If Europe boycotts Russian gas, can Israel meet their needs? - opinion

A senior German minister has called for a discussion about boycotting the import of Russian natural gas in reaction to the alleged atrocities of Russian soldiers in Ukraine. Morally, an absolutely correct stand. It is easy to imagine the discussion, if it takes place when fellow European politicians will point to their countries’ dependence on the importation of oil and natural gas and even coal, yes, coal to the continent in which the Green Deal is its new flagship.

The European Union imported 155 billion cubic meters (BCM) from Russia in 2021. Half of Germany’s imported gas arrives from Russia, 46% in Italy and a quarter in France, the three leading economies of the EU and all members of the G7. Not surprisingly, the EU has not imposed sanctions on the this sector, but the issue has been very high on the agenda.

Following his three summits with the leaders of the EU, NATO and the G7 on March 25, President Biden declared that the US will inject 15 BCM of natural gas to the world market in 2022 with more to come in the future. They will release one million oil barrels a day in the next 6 months from its strategic reserves in an effort to lower supply and price pressures. The president must have had his own country on his mind and its economic indicators showing growing inflation in which rising fuel prices are a key factor.

Israel and Egypt are producers of natural gas and the question is whether they or other east Mediterranean potential producers are relevant to the current situation. Given production capacity, existing supply contracts and conveyance capacity, Israel may have 10 BCM annually to add to Europe’s demand, while Egypt is mostly engaged in its domestic market.

Egypt though becomes a key player if Israel is asked to help mitigate a crisis in Russia’s natural gas supply to Europe, since currently it holds the sole connection for the Israeli gas to Europe. There are two ways to convey natural gas – pump it into pipes or liquefy it, load it on specially built tankers and re-gasify it at the other end, close to the client. The liquefacation of natural gas (LNG), its shipping and regasification require investments of billions of dollars.

The only ‘Patriots’ that Ukraine’s government sees are Azov.

this is false

There are plenty of Ukrainians - including those whose parents came from Russia but who were born and lived in Ukraine - who are fighting Putin's army

Also "given history in Donbas" -- don't look only at the Russian propaganda. There were 14000 killed in the fighting over 8 years as per TASS, but out of those 3,500 were civilians, not the entire 14K

And this was not "killing for propaganda purposes", unlike Putin's army in Bucha etc.

BTW — There is an existing cheap-ass low volume gas pipeline from Russia to China. The Rooskie owned, Siberian gas field is only 2000+ miles north of China. Sometime in the future, China can move north to take and own this Rooskie gas field.

There are plans to build a much larger Russia-China gas pipeline called Power of Siberia Two. I am sure they will start construction soon. Russia is very good as far as making gas line piping and compressors. They are not clowns when it comes to this.

Say what you want. But note that I don’t even blame Ukraine for what they do to Ethnic Russians.

Given that Ukraine is under invasion, and the World Media is PERFECTLY HAPPY to lie non-stop about events, any reasonable leader would take advantage of that situation and send innocent people (particularly the ones they don’t like in the first place) to their deaths for propaganda purposes.

My problem is mainly with THE MEDIA, which is why I never bitched about Zelensky shutting down opposition parties (or opposition media, for that matter), since he is fighting a war for survival and it’s reasonable to use every tool available and get rid of entities that are in his way of that fight.

This is just a repeat of how Bill Clinton got away with his war crimes in Serbia - nothing new. And you guys be warned over there - elect the wrong leader, and the World Media will also make life very difficult for you. In fact, that may happen anyway, since you guys weren’t exactly media darlings due to your resistance to the EU Re-Population plan (and probably the grooming of kids, but I’m not sure about that). If this war ends in a way that Ukraine is out of the headlines, don’t forget, your government is Media Target Number 2, right after Hungary. The EU has no room for leaders who put their country first.

It would make sense.

Stopping them from screwing up Russia’s plans makes more sense than that there is something Russia wants from Israel.

Ukraine isn’t targeting ethnic Russians.

Furthermore, what do you mean by “ethnic Russians”? Someone who speaks Russian as his native language? There are plenty of Ukrainians who do, including Zelensky.

What about those whose parents came from what is now Russia? Lots of Ukrainians have one or both parents from Russia, but feel Ukrainian.

Zelensky didn’t “shut down opposition parties”. He shut down 3 parties that were a fourth column for Putin and he shut them down now, during Putin’s invasion. The leading opposition parties are still around.

Don’t be surprised when you guys start getting the Orban treatment, due to your internal policies, and it will likely be worse, once you’re no longer of use to the EU and Media.

“You really think the Ukrainians killed their own Patriots? “

Yes. Azov publicly gave the order to kill all Ukrainians suspected of being Russian Collaborators in that area.

Guys with blue armbands (Ukraine) are on vids there asking if they can shoot the ones (civillians) with white armbands. The leader says, “Yes.”

They slaughtered them, then blamed the Russians. Very common tactic there, on the Ukraine side.

The railway missile was definitely Ukrainian, too. Proof all over the net.

Biden and crew would do anything to halt Israel form doing it because it’s in their best interest to keep Russia the main supplier because Russia is helpful to keep their end oil plan going.

“..Biden and crew would do anything to halt Israel form doing it..”

Agree! Wasn’t there a plan floated earlier this year about Israel building a pipeline to Europe (maybe Italy), by-passing Turkey, and “Biden and crew” nixed it???

Azov is a tiny number of people.

Less than 1% of their military, and less than 2% of the population voting for candidates of that nature.

in the Ukrainian Parliament, the Ukrainian Rada, these parties did not pass the 5% barrier in the last elections. The Russian imperialists and the Russian aggressor call every Ukrainian a “Nazi” who loves his native language, the history of his people, who loves Ukraine and wants Ukraine to be free. In the eyes of the Russian imperial, a “Nazi” is every person who wants to live in his own separate state, his home, on the land of his ancestors and who does not suffer from the imperialism that Russian imperials suffer from. In the eyes of the Russian imperial, even a Russian-speaking Ukrainian who wants to live in a free democratic Ukraine is a “Nazi” only because he does not want to be in Russian slavery, in a Russian barn and on a Russian chain.

Considering Russia has presented absolutely no credible evidence to back up those claims, it’s fairly obvious that they’re fabricated. This is further reinforced by the fact that the Kremlin kept changing their minds on their reasons for attacking Ukraine as time went on: they were supporting the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk, then they were taking on the Nazis, then they were rescuing Russian ‘hostages’…the list went on, and was getting considerably less believable with each lie.

Ukraine’s own resistance to Russia rather demonstrates the absence of any Fascists or Nazis present in the country: if Ukraine’s government were fascist in nature, they’d be siding with the Russians, not fighting against them. Such individuals want an authoritarian government of the sort that Putin would install - and, let’s be honest, he’s pretty Fascist in nature himself, so it’s doubtful he’d see modern Nazis as anything other than allies. Let’s not forget that he’s aligned himself with certain American individuals and groups that are similarly-oriented.

At the end of the day, Vladimir Putin simply wishes to restore the power, prestige and territorial holdings of the former USSR, imagining that doing so would place him on a pedestal next to Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin: influential leaders who turned an agrarian nation into a global superpower. Invading and annexing Ukraine was simply the next thing on his tick list, and with certain parties in the US having significantly undermined the NATO alliance, he felt now would be the best time to do so, not anticipating the level of resistance and sanctions that have been the response of the rest of the world.

It’s got nothing to do with Nazis, and never did. That was merely an excuse, and not one that anyone outside particularly indoctrinated circles would be likely to buy into.

I have no issue with Ukraine fighting Russia.

But it’s not the business of the USA.

There is no direct threat to the security of America over there. And I call my Senators and congressmen frequently and tell them we need to stay the hell out of it. No money, no weapns, no troops, nothing.

The CIA and State Department have been pushing on Russia for 50 years.

Enough!!!! Effin STOP IT!!!!

I now believe this insane administration is trying to goad Russia into attacking a US base. They actually WANT a NATO war against Russia.

Insanity!!!!

No troops I agree with.

However no weapons is incorrect. Ukraine is keeping Putin from further military adventures. And that us good for the USA

It is the business of the USA as if Putin wins here, it goes further west and threatens the USA ultimately.

That’s the whole point of NATO, to keep the fighting away from American shores.

I agree to no American troops in Ukraine.

But that us different from your “let putin conquer Ukraine, yet!” Posts
