(CNN)Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has raised more than $100 million for his 2022 reelection bid, a stunning sum that speaks as much to his national ambitions as it does to his prospects in the Sunshine State.
DeSantis is widely regarded as the biggest star not named "Donald Trump" within the Republican Party. He regularly runs second to Trump in 2024 straw polls and often wins them outright when Trump is not included.
And unlike many other Republicans mentioned as possible 2024 candidates, DeSantis has not said he would get out of the race to make way for Trump.
Which, of course, Trump has taken notice of.

But make no mistake: DeSantis and his allies very much meant to send a message with his fundraising totals. (According to CNN, he appears to be the first governor to break the $100 million mark in fundraising solely through donations.)

They are 4 year terms and for only twice.
Exactly. Trump’s “Team” has been a disaster.
The Oz endorsement indeed was a head scratcher for me.
I am torn. I love Trump, but can he really function if he wins a second term? I am afraid the attacks will become even more savage. I really think they will kill him if all else fails. Most people I know are the same. They love Trump and voted for him but wished he would use some better judgement in what he says. No sense in giving the enemy more ammo.
And make no mistake, without Trump there is no DeSantis.
Trump paved the way.
Other GOP elected officials should take notice, act like a conservative and get support”
... As long as the Change of Commerce approves, at least if you’re governor Noem.
“Trump paved the way.”
Yep, no doubt about that. I find it so sad that there is ONLY DeSantis following the Trump pro-American, pro-Liberty, anti-communist, anti-liberal path.
As a young governor with young children, DeSantis takes the entire groomer schools issue personally - he understands what hell parents are going thru at the hands of their children’s teachers and is fighting the LBGTQ whatever movement with laws.
No one else is fighting against them with any substance, only shallow words.
Where DeSantis has yet to be tested is what happens when the GOPe goes after him, as they inevitably will.
Reagan faced the same problem until he ultimately prevailed.
Agree whole heartedly!
I love DeSantis too
Trump in his 70s, but he has more energy than many much younger. Operation warp speed gave us the therapies and moniclonals that Ron likes to hype and Ron actually shut his state down so don’t even go there.
Trump has something very big that DeSantis has not had.
Trump had a very successful term, with a great economy and great unemployment numbers and a very secure border and a great foreign policy.
Plus, he’s battle hardened, with democrats battling him on everything and trying hard to get rid of him illegally. Plus, he actually ‘won’ the 2020 election, though the record doesn’t show it because it was stolen from him.
I don’t know anybody more deserving at this point; not even DeSantis. But, DeSantis would be a shoe-in for the vice-presidency and very unbeatable in 2028. DeSantis is young and can wait for 2028, where no democrat would be able to compete against him.
Need to find a print shop to make life-sized copies so I can do some amygdala training
I want to see them together. If DeSantis tries to wrest the nomination from Trump, it could be uglier than his fights with Cruz.
This is CNN trying to stir up conflict between Trump and DeSantis fans.
No Republican will be well served by a non-primary. The only thing that will happen with that is that the Dems would be able to throw everything they have at the soon-to-be-nominee early and often. It would save them a lot of money and give them all the time in the world to trash all the down-ticket GOP candidates too. Go DeSantis!
