New Hospitalizations down 10.3%

Most places are flat or downward for new cases, but the slight National rise was driven by slow rises in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island and Virginia; and somewhat faster rises (albeit all from low levels) in Kentucky and New York State. This is likely the expected small BA.2 bump, but it also might possibly reflect waning immunity. It is a small effect, as can be seen in the graph.

Small weekly rise in new cases Nationally (4.9%), from very low levels. Likely a small bump from the BA.2 sub-variant, possibly some waning of immunity. Second week of small increases in test positivity rate (2.1% to 2.4% to 3.1%).

Colorado had a very slight rise over the last week (almost flat), but Arkansas saw (see what I did there) a another big decline. The 7 day moving average for new cases is under 100 - almost fluttering out.

I doubt we'll see much of an increase in cases due to BA.2 sub-variant even with some waning of immunity.

A nice lull so far. How long will it last?

Current variant appears to be mild. I have covid right now. On day 3 and about as severe as the last common cold I had. Last vaccine well over a year ago and this is the first time I’ve had it.

Still enough to trigger the Fearadelphia (Philadelphia) Health Comizars into threatening a return to MANDATORY masking sometime next week.
