Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky has vetoed a bill banning transgender athletes from competing in sex-segregated sporting events.
Beshear, a Democrat, refused to sign the bill Wednesday after claiming it was most likely unconstitutional. Beshear claimed the legislation "discriminates against transgender people" and therefore would not hold up in court.
The Republican-dominated state legislature can force the bill through with a majority vote in both houses, which is expected to happen next week.

This is a recurring theme with governors vetoing these women’s sports rights bills. they claim that they are unconstitutional. It’s the job of the courts to declare legislation unconstitutional, not the governor.
Beshear and Holcomb, birds of a feather.
The bill prevents discrimination against the girls who have to compete against the men.
Yet another DemocRAT Governor loves himself some Chicks with Dicks.
Shows women’s libs that they are controlled by superior men.
I have finally come to the conclusion that there are three genders: Male, Female & Demoncrats.
Not so. It is a valid reason for vetoing legislation, so long as it's not a lie like it is in Beshear's case.
Yes--by their silence liberated women are admitting that the best female athletes are men.
How do these Governors justify their cowardice?
They get re-elected. That’s how.
“How do these Governors justify their cowardice?”
It’s how the Communist Party rolls.
He’s got to have that all-important transgender vote.
All 15 of them.
Unconstitutional my arse!
What’s Unconstitutional is killing or raping babies? They don’t mind that.
They got to protect their ‘own’ (pedos and perverts).
>The Republican-dominated state legislature can force the bill through with a majority vote in both houses, which is expected to happen next week.<
They damned well better do it!
Kentucky only requires a simple majority vote to override, not even a two-thirds vote. Slam dunk veto override incoming.
I have the growing suspicion it was never for “women’s lib” as much as it was to be against Christianity morality. Same here.
These politicians lack of sanity and respect for women is otherworldly.
This is true, but it seems strange to me. Intuitively one would think that a veto would require a higher standard to override.
Agreed, Andy. Remember, judicial review is not even in the Constitution, and I think Marburg v Madison was wrongly decided. At the very least what can be said, setting aside the particulars here, is that legislatures have an obligation not to pass laws that are unconstitutional, executives have the obligation to veto laws that are, and the judiciary has the obligation to strike down laws that are unconstitutional . They all take oaths to support the constitution
