Turkish court suspends Khashoggi trial, confirms transfer to Saudi Arabia

A Turkish court ruled Thursday to suspend the trial in absentia of 26 Saudis accused in the gruesome killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi and for the case to be transferred to Saudi Arabia.

...

The Istanbul court's decision comes despite warnings from human rights groups that turning the case over to the kingdom would lead to a cover up of the killing, which has cast suspicion on the crown prince.

It also comes as Turkey, which is in the throes of a deep economic downturn, has been trying to repair its troubled relationship with Saudi Arabia and an array of other countries in its region. Some media reports have claimed that Riyadh has made improved relations conditional on Turkey dropping the case, which had inflamed tensions between two countries.

The move would pave the way to a resolution of disputes between the two regional heavyweights since the 2011 Arab Spring, including Turkey’s support for Islamist movements like the Muslim Brotherhood, which Riyadh considers a terrorist group. Turkey also sided with Qatar in a diplomatic dispute that saw Doha boycotted by Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The globalists must need extra gas to put the squeeze on Putin.

Again, Khashoggi was a Muslim Brotherhood operative using “journalist” as a cover who was dealt with inartfully by the Saudis. Erdogan and the Turks have treated real journalists just as badly.

Not my circus, not my monkeys, anyone who is upset about this doesn’t “get” the Middle East, and probably believes the corporate media narratives.

I’m sure the murderers will get a fair trial from the people who ordered the murder, aren’t you?

Perspective:
Turkey is on the verge of death. Saudi Arabia has offered salvation if Turkey drops the purely political show trial

Life trumps politics

Good take.

Politics is the mother of strange bedfellows.

Khashoggi was Muslim Brotherhood trash. You do know they consider you their enemy and would like to kill or subjugate you yes?

Yes, absolutely!

So would the Saudis.

It’s a lot like democrats vs republicans. They both have the same goal, but one wants to impose it right now, the other more slowly.

The Kasogi farce is merely a pretext for a much larger kettle of frying fish.

Last week there was a Negev summit gathering the USA, Israel and the principle Arabs. Although there were said to be several topics, the main issue was of course Iran. There is a mini Nato now formally exposed, the objective of which is to contain Iran.

Meanwhile, Turkey is bankrupt and is in absolutely terrible shape in what actually is a situation from which it can not recover. Erdogan is sort of pro Iranian, anti Arab ,general asshole, economic moron disaster.

We can be certain beyond the shadow of a doubt, one of the topics discusses at the Negev was how to solve the Turkey problem to the benefit of the miniNato alliance. The decision was to send Saudi Arabia on a Kasogi trial mission and carrying the message to Erdogan “We, meaning the coalition, will bail you out if you either resign or straighten up and fly right. You must join our anti Iran containment effort or we will let you die”. They made him an offer he dare not refuse

So we now can wait and see how Erdogan reacts. Does he accept miniNato salvation or does he die?

These events are largely ignored in America and here but are perhaps really more important than Russia and Ukraine.
