I heard a retired American General a few weeks ago on one of the Fox News shows state that Russian military conscripts are only required to serve one year of active duty.

I was surprised to hear this since by the time you go through basic training, and then advanced training where you become proficient, your time in the service is just about up.

More likely Russian conscripts are just labor for the personal involuntary labor of military officers and politicians.

It is 1 year max. By law they can only be sent to combat after the first 4 months of that.

Yes, was 2yrs, reduced to 1.5 then 1 yr.

Earlier 2nd yr conscripts notoriously killed hundreds of newbies.

The Russian forces are about 30% conscripts, 50 % contract/ volunteers and the remainder being officers and career NCOs.
