Ukraine war: Lithuania completely abandons Russian gas in EU first
South China morning post ^ | 5th April 2022

From this month on, no more Russian gas in Lithuania,’ President Gitanas Nauseda said in a tweet as he urged other European nations to do the same Lithuania managed to cut its energy dependence on Moscow after it launched the Klaipeda offshore LNG import terminal in 2014

Lithuania said it has cut itself off entirely of gas imports from Russia, apparently becoming the first of the European Union’s 27 nations using Russian gas to break its energy dependence on Moscow.

“Seeking full energy independence from Russian gas, in response to Russia’s energy blackmail in Europe and the war in Ukraine, Lithuania has completely abandoned Russian gas,” Lithuania’s energy ministry said in a statement late Saturday, adding that the measure took effect in the beginning of April.

Lithuania managed to reduce imports of Russian gas to zero on Saturday, a move seen a milestone in achieving energy independence in the former Soviet republic of 2.8 million, the ministry said.

“We are the first EU country among Gazprom’s supply countries to gain independence from Russian gas supplies, and this is the result of a multi-year coherent energy policy and timely infrastructure decisions,” Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys said.

We need to supply our own as much as possible.

I’m afraid Putin will act aggressively with this maneuver by Lithuania, and possibly Poland next.

Big deal. We here in the US abandoned our energy sources and started using Russia’s. What a crock.

There are anonymous anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles floating all over Europe now, thanks to the neocon @ssho globalists.

LNG tankers operate in constricted Euro waterways on known schedules.

Do you understand what these idiots have done?

Odd, you seem to think shoulder fired weapons floating around all over is a bad thing? When everyone has one no one will use them Incase they miss maybe or not what could go wrong? Every azzhole will have a shoulder fired weapon, probably even Alec effing Baldwin. Ain’t it great?

Even with a pipeline, there still needs to be a storage facility.

Symbolic - they are 0.6% of Europe’s population. Let us know when Germany does the same.

“We need to supply our own as much as possible.”

Sorry, not happening, we don’t drill anymore. Maybe Cutter or Algeria. Well, maybe, they’re both neutral.

Lithuania currently uses 2.36B cubic meters of gas per year of which roughly 40% is from Russia.

They’re going to have to replace 1 billion cubic meters of gas in a hurry...easier said than done.

Lithuania’s “new” LNG terminal can handle enough gas for the entire country, plus a little for its neighbors (tho’ far from enough to fully supply them too.) If the LNG is available on the market, basically it’s a matter of placing the order(s)... and being willing to pay the price.
