Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) offered electric vehicles as a solution to Mainers’ increased energy costs during a recent discussion with a Northeastern University technology center in Portland.
A host read questions to Mills during the March 30 discussion, and on one related to energy costs, which the host noted were “top of mind for many,” she asked Mills, “What do you see as the best short-term solution, and then maybe some of the longer-term ideas that you and the administration have?”

Yep, it’s their “Let them eat cake” analogy.
Ask people in the northwest when stuck in a snowstorm
when the snowfall builds up and clogs the roadway
and the highway slows and becomes impassible.
Remember EV don’t generate heat like a gas/diesel
engine does and your stuck inside an ice cold car
waiting for the roads to clear.
If your battery is low you can’t heat your car.
Which means a buyer will never recoup the cost for that EV. How much gas would $60,000 buy. About 800 tank fulls? About 500,000 miles worth.
You are right. How did we end up with politicians who can't even understand that their ideas are totally unrealistic.
It takes about five minutes to refuel a car with gasoline, maybe a few minutes more for a vehicle with a large gas tank. It takes about 45 minutes to recharge an electric car with a high end fast charger. If people don't charge their electric cars at home then you need nine times as many charging stations as there are gas pumps if every vehicle is an electric vehicle.
In reality a lot of electric cars could be charged at people's homes, but you still need to build and install hundreds of thousands of charging stations to support electric vehicles, and in places where people fuel up while traveling you need nine electric chargers for every gas pump.
Think about a gas station on a turnpike. If half of the cars are electric cars you need something like 50 charging stations at each rest area. The means a new parking lot and a significant new power infrastructure.
Politicians need to have some basic planning and management ability, something they seem to lack.
Yep, my point exactly.
Electric Vehicles in Maine; There are electric vehicle owners in every county in Maine, and 130 charging stations,
Will security be provided at these EV charging station? I can’t imagine a female hanging around for 30 minutes or so in some strange area. What are they supposed to do, take a nap?
“..I live in Maine....”
Born and raised there. Engineering graduate of UofM in Orono. Still have family, property and a whole bunch of friends up there. ALL of em cannot stand that Austin Powers look-alike moron.
Voters will have to get rid of RCV and those RCV-enabled voting machines first.
The distance to drive from point A to point B is way too far for their stinkin’ electric vehicles.”
Plan your trip so halfway is at the highest elevation. Then ride the brakes downhill, and the batteries will be fully charged when you arrive.
Easy-peasy!
“Most people in Maine couldn’t afford $60,000 - $80,000 for one of these firetraps anyway.”
Yesterday in Bethesda, MD, a recharging electric scooter caught fire, causing $65,000 in damages to a residence.
Fire, more than anything, will stimulate new regulations in gated communities and condominiums.
“Looking at the population density map for the state. I’m sure you could get some recharges in the population clusters down south but driving through the rest of the state will be a real bitch with an EV.”
Solution: Tow a trailer carrying a spare battery pack—and a cable—or a diesel generator.
Aren’t there transmission lines coming down from Quebec’s newly-created hydro-electic power source?
Last I saw, New Hampshire rejected the lines.
But they will die saving the environment! That ought to make them feel better.
LOL!
That work better in Colorado.
“Also didn’t this state just kill an electric power transmission line or something?”
New Hampshire did.
Maine? IDK.
Will security be provided at these EV charging station? I can’t imagine a female hanging around for 30 minutes or so in some strange area. What are they supposed to do, take a nap?
