In a nutshell, they banned plastic bags in Albuquerque, then covid came around and they lifted the ban ‘temporarily’. Then they reinstated it, and a city councilor introduced legislation to do away with the bag-ban. Our pretty-boy idiot mayor vetoed it, and last night the city council over-rode the veto. All hail the plastic wife-beater.

Banning plastic bags is a sign of mental defect.

Reusing bags for groceries means bringing bacteria into a store and spreading it around. Who, especially having lived under COVID-1984 protocols, would force that by law?

It's simply filthy and the facts were known more than a decade ago.

Brown paper shopping bags were fine for over 50 years. Recycle them if the tree-hugger in you gets a bit randy. I packed newspaper in them for decades. Wrapped school books with them, packaged the cats soiled litter in them so the garbage guy didn't have to deal with the loose clay.

Then plastic bags became all the rage and we were told how economical they were and how "sanitary" it was to discard them after use. Then it wasn't OK because the Earth-First crowd became a threatening voting demographic that needed pandering.

Now we want you to buy your own bags and reuse them because it's cheaper for us to put the burden on you - the consumer. After we jerked you around for the past 60 years. But the retailer gets to save money. So it's all good, right? All in the name of saving the planet from the horrible humans that are trying to destroy it. /s

But the retailer gets to save money.

Here in Oregon, you have to buy your disposable grocery bags from the store.

I wash my reusable bags and got used to them. I do get some of their plastic bags though to wrap food in and cat litter, not in the same bag.

They banned the small plastic bags and replaced them with large plastic shopping bags. Crazy!

“Reusing bags for groceries means bringing bacteria into a store and spreading it around.”

Great for picking up dog poop.

You are entirely correct.

Who knows where re-useable bags have been, and what they might have contained?

As an aside observation, people who plunk raw veggies on market conveyors on which re-usable bags have ridden just aren't into thinking.

But are they still banned in the county outside ABQ?

Do they have a "bag sheriff" at the door watching for folks sneaking them in?
