NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A proposal making its way through the state legislature would establish a common-law marriage between “one man” and “one woman.”
Opponents of the bill (HB 233) say it would eliminate an age requirement, and in some instances, open the door for a coverup of child sex abuse.

Legal age was 16 in Tennessee, 14 in North Carolina when in HS. Had many classmates cross the state line to get married in NC, no blood test, no waiting period.

I've found many marriages back in the 1700’s and 1800’s of 14 year old girls in genealogy records. Never yet found a male under 18, usually much older.

I’m not a biologist, so I’m not allowed to define what makes a woman.
I’m not a lawyer, so I’m not allowed to define legal age of consent.
But my daughters(they are young women) sure as Hell are not getting married under age 18.
