Russia likely to shift tactics, send thousands of soldiers to eastern Ukraine, U.S. says

Russia probably plans to deploy tens of thousands of soldiers in eastern Ukraine as it shifts its focus to the country's south and east, U.S. President Joe Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Monday.

“At this juncture we believe Russia is revising its war aims” to focus on “eastern and parts of southern Ukraine rather than target most of the territory," Sullivan told reporters at the White House.

The goal was likely to "surround and overwhelm" Ukrainian forces in the region, he said. “Russia could then use any tactical success it achieves to propagate a narrative of progress and mask ... prior military failure.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion, which began on Feb. 24, is Europe's bloodiest since World War Two. Russia calls it a "special military operation" aimed at protecting civilians.

Sullivan said the Biden administration would announce fresh military assistance for Ukraine in coming days. He said further sanctions against Russian energy are on the table in talks with European allies.

The Russians might even be able to recover their dead before the vultures and dogs get to them.
Looking forward to the new OSNIT feeds showing more smoldering convoys.

Russia likely to shift tactics, send thousands of soldiers to eastern Ukraine, U.S. says

I'd say to the Ukrainians, and to the U.S. military officials....

To be careful. Very, very careful.

The pullback by Putin's forces, could be a head fake.

Since Putin has gotten away with the many war crimes up to now, and hasn't got anybody that can stop him, not even the U.S. and not NATO either...

Putin could be planning for a much bigger war crime, and is pulling his troops our of harm...

The kind of harm that can come from using chemical weapons. He can kill hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, and the west is paralyzed by Putin's threats of using nuclear weapons... and that threat could still be used by Putin to continue paralyzing NATO and the U.S....

So, with his (Putin's) war not going well...

He could do something real drastic, like unleash nuclear weapons on the Ukrainian military and civilians.

A desperate person will do desperate things.

And, we continue to suffer from the Putin inflicted paralysis.

Except Putin doesn’t care if his own troops get nuked. That has been obvious since Day One.

It was always their plan to hit eastern and parts of southern Ukraine rather than target most of the territory.

Jake Sullivan isn't who I'd be giving any heed to regarding what RUssia will or not do - and for that matter even Ukraine. He's simply getting his instructions from these folks

I don’t know. I believe only what’s reported in the Daily Mail, the NYT and CNN.

In this instance, he does. Otherwise, he would be crucified at home, by his underlings and the Russian people, who would know that Putin is the devil if he were to do the WMD thing with chemicals. Everybody would know, including all Russians, even if they tried to block all news of the evil deed.

Even Hitler was leery of his military commanders and his government staff.

Good grief. It's not a shift in tactics. Donbass and the east have been the focus of Russian's military operation from DAY ONE. The Russians were only in Kiev as diversion.

You're full of it.

331st got decimated. Hundreds of casualties and tons of vehicles destroyed. Why would they take Hostemel airport just to give it up? Why give your enemy a huge victory if it was a diversion. I'll tell you why, because it wasn't. They got wrecked.

If if were a true diversion/feint, they could have just parked in Belarus and the mere threat of crossing over would have been enough for Ukraine to keep troops nearby.

Admit it, your boys got smoked and humiliated by the Ukrainians and they then committed war crimes on their way out.
