Wow, maybe they can be sued again for something! Take away some of that endowment.
The laws on this may vary by state, but for many colleges a huge chunk of their endowments are not open to seizure in a lawsuit because of the way they are structured. If I donate $10 million to a college to help generate a revenue stream to support a new department and facilities, the money doesn’t actually belong to the school to do what they want with it. If any of that money isn’t used for it’s stated purpose (including a payment for damages in a lawsuit), the donor can demand to get it paid back.
