Vodka is made in Russia

It's made in a lot of places. When Ohio's governor stopped our liquor stores from selling Russian vodka, only a couple of brands were actually pulled off the shelves. Even the brands with Russian names were made elsewhere.

Kind of why I’m skeptical of everything about this entire mess.

Un huh.

So far all I see is the RF leaving the capital area and the second largest city with a lot of dead soldiers and with a huge amount equipment destroyed, damaged or taken over by the Ukrainians.

But you keep going with those talking points. Somebody will believe you.

Many wiring harnesses used in various automobile brands are made in Ukraine. That is contributing to the new car shortage here in the US (e.g. BMW which are made in South Caroline but use Ukrainian made wiring harnesses).

Very interesting.
Lot of hand labor in those.
Probably scrambling to get alternate sites up and running.

Most of that is grasping at straws, and the rest is strictly temporary. In truth Russia can just go away, and the global economy wont miss it.

The Russian problem is that its entire cultural outlook is this hostile, threatening, grasping. Its communication with the world is distinctly unfriendly. Its not “look what we can do for you!”- with a smile. Its not open handed, generous. Its not (deliberately) amusing. Dealing with them its as if they are begrudgingly doing you a favor.

The Daily Worker (official paper of the CPUSA) would have some pretty ridiculous stories, pure bs propaganda during the 80’s. Some here remind me of one of the dumb locals who reported to the editor and was responsible for some of those stories.

Most of that stuff was from Donbass, and specifically the Russian controlled areas. So Russia always had access to it. And, Russia brought most of the production into Russia during the early 00s.

Many of us here predicted this. So foreseeable.

Predicted propaganda? I agree with you there.

I’ve got stuff made in Russia, and my dad had a wind-up clock which was meant for submarines.

My dad told me that after the fall of the Soviet Union there were night-vision goggles available cheap, the only downside being that they sent x-rays into your eyeballs.

That was definitely true. Soviet media was an instrument of the state, and that state was fundamentally built on lies.

Whats been so depressing over the last thirty years or so (I lived in the US for almost forty years) was that the US media has been going the same way. And FR was part of the American “samizdat”.

“And the air force was, effectively, about three dozen planes, not all flyable. Big whoop.”

NO,NO,NO! The ghost of Kiev took out the whole Russian air force in a biplane using a slingshot and gumballs.

The “ghost of Kiev”, whomever he was, real or imagined, plus his friends in the air and on the ground, did shoot down a good number of Russian aircraft. A very creditable performance for such a small and outdated force.

This is one of those cases of Russian lack of generosity, of honor, of a lack of that sense of fair play. Even in WWI the allies and the Germans on the Western front were capable of speaking well of their enemies. Richthofen and his sort were well known and esteemed as capable enemies. Even that mad warrior Ernst Junger spoke well of the courage and ability of his enemies.

But in this war its pure contempt.

Fact is much of the world is tired of the US, US military interventions, US dollar hegemony, and now a weaponized dollar- they all wonder will they be next?.I would advise you to look up the Indian Finance Minister’s speech….it echoes 60 percent of the world’s population.
Prepare for the China/ Russia/ Indian alliance , with much of South America and the Middle Eastern countries backing the Yuan/ Ruble/ Rupee use.
The USD is being dethroned, and prepare for $7 trillion plus USD being sent back to the US. It won’t end well for the US.

I was a tech controller and didn't reenlist partly because every E5 that left the REDCOM HQ building Tech Control got a remote in Turkey.

Morse Systems Intercept Operators were in the same building with us in tech school.

One day, probably. No hegemony lasts forever. But the collapse is almost always due to internal factors than external.

This is not such a time, yet. China is the main player here, and they arent ready to take over. Nobody really trusts China. You can tell when they will be trusted when they become a destination, not a source, of flight capital.

And Russia is getting their collective rear-ends kicked; and just another problem: Russia was getting lots of equipment from the Ukraine for their military. Now that Putin invaded they’re no longer getting replacements for their weapons especially the electronic stuff.

Hmmm. I bought some of those in the early 90s. Haven’t turned them on yet.
