Fire and rain: West to get more one-two extreme climate hits
The Associated Press ^ | April 1, 2022 | By SETH BORENSTEIN (D-AP)

The one-two punch of nasty wildfires followed by heavy downpours, triggering flooding and mudslides, will strike the U.S. West far more often in a warming-hopped world, becoming a frequent occurrence, a new study said.

The report looked at 11 Western U.S. states, concentrating on four of them where the projected increase in fires followed by downpours was most noticeable.

Study authors acknowledged that the worst-case warming scenario they studied, using dozens of large-scale climate model simulations, is becoming increasingly less likely because many but not all countries, including the United States and Europe, have been cutting emissions of heat-trapping gases.

They said they were unable at the time to use simulations of more likely scenarios with some moderate emission reductions. But in the more likely scenarios the Pacific Northwest would probably still see a four-fold increase in fire-and-flooding, said study lead author Danielle Touma, a National Center for Atmospheric Research climate scientist.

The simulations were of fire weather, not fires themselves, and downpour conditions. University of California at Merced climate scientist LeRoy Westerling, who wasn’t part of the study, said he worries about the accuracy of global computer model simulations being able to work on such a small scale. Still, he said, the results make sense.

It’s the AP.
Percent science knowledge: 0
Percent bulls**t: 100

They are ONLY journalists for a reason.

AP announces sweeping climate journalism initiative

Feb. 15, 2022

The Associated Press announced today it will significantly expand its climate coverage, creating a standalone desk that will enhance the global understanding of climate change and its impact across the world.

The initiative will infuse the global media landscape with a new stream of quality climate journalism through both AP content and in-depth training and collaboration directly with AP’s thousands of customers worldwide.

The news agency will also launch an AP StoryShare network for climate coverage, allowing news organizations to share their content with one another and in turn provide more robust coverage for their audiences.

The expansion is supported by several philanthropic organizations, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Quadrivium and The Rockefeller Foundation. AP retains complete editorial control of all content.

“Unbiased, fact-based journalism has never been more important or imperiled,” said Larry Kramer, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. “The Associated Press has, for over a century, played a crucial role reporting on the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change. The climate initiative will build on AP’s legacy of independent journalism and help millions better understand the impact of the climate crisis and counter climate-related misinformation.”

Great. Now I have James Taylor singing in my head on Repeat.

It could be worse. When I was in college sub-letting the third floor of a house on the south side, the young woman on the second floor played Carole King's "You've Got a Friend" continuously for hours on end.

climate activists refuse to admit the established theories that activity on the sun’s surface is responsible for most all irregular weather.

There is no need for ‘real’ science here—that is, empirical data that can unequivocally link cause to effect while eliminating irrelevant variables. Weather gets bad sometimes, so it must be humans causing it. There is no other politically correct way to look at it.

Once again this article provides no evidence of man-made climate change. When has there been a claim by any of these modelers that they have run their models backwards and had them align with events during the last two decades or so.

Turn a blank sheet of paper sideways. On the left write “weather event” in small letters, draw a circle around the words, and then draw a small arrow pointing to the right side. On the far right, write the words ‘man made climate change” in small letters, draw a circle around the words, and then draw a small arrow pointing to the circle. Is there not a large blank space in the middle? Do you ever see a story which fills in this area? How often do words like sun and ocean appear?

I will submit there is no evidence of man-made global warming because no adherent to the popular mythology will acknowledge the existence of the sun or the ocean engines. All I have ever seen are comments on weather events or physical phenomenon involving temperature followed by an assertion global warming is the cause. Such reasoning requires a complete disconnect between events and conclusions, and is no more rigorous thought than Middle Age alchemy.

In the back of my mind I thought the poor woman might have been suicidal, trying to convince herself that Carole King was her friend.

In other words, making stuff up to fit the desired narrative.

In that case we need to build more dams.

There are dams on the drawing board to support the expected increase in population. Why can't we dust off those blueprints?
