Russia won’t demand immediate switch to ruble for gas payments: Kremlin

Russia will not immediately demand that buyers pay for its gas exports in rubles, the Kremlin said on Wednesday, promising a gradual shift and saying Russia should work on an idea to widen the list of its exports requiring ruble payment.

President Vladimir Putin issued an order last week for Russian gas, which accounts for 40 percent of European needs, to paid for in rubles instead of dollars or euros.

Asked whether the payments should be in rubles starting from Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “Absolutely no.”

I don’t know where this is coming from. Russia needs dollars. They have to buy things in dollars. Moving things to rubles is not helpful. Russia can print all the rubles they need. I’s dollars or Euros that they lack. They are selling Oil and buying dollars. They can use the dollars to buy other western stuff. Which is the need. And I assume other countries, especially China will aid them in doing this through their banking system.

In order to pay in Rubles, you have to get Rubles first. So you buy Rubles with Euros or Dollars or whatever, thereby backing the value of the Ruble.

What Russia needs dollars for? The US is not her serious trading partner, but China and India are.

If they get payed in dollars they can leave those dollars in the foreign bank and buy rubles with the dollars. But I don’t think that is a good thing right now. They really need dollars, Yen or Euros. The US will keep attacking the ruble. But they can’t attack the dollar. The dollar is getting stronger. The US is causing that. If Russian dollar stores grow, the US will have a tough time attacking. Russia needs currency diversification primarily.

Dollars convert easily. The Yuan and Rupee do not convert well. Yes, you can trade with India and China, but then you give a lot of leverage to those two countries. The US will have Russia in a box. Russia needs the flexibility to trade as many places as possible. And dollars are the universal currency. Euros are almost as good. And Yen is a close third. All are nice strong currencies that will just go up in value as the NATO countries attack the Ruble. Russia has oil and gold. Both can be sold for western currencies. And both are strong.

Where were numerous threats that Russia won’t be allowed to convert, and tons of her dollar reserves were seized, so dollar is losing its shine.

Yep, Putin is weak, he didn’t take Ukraine in three days.

The dollar as a reserve currency is over and you know it.

Russian dollars are not seized in Chinese banks or Indian banks. Both countries have banking systems outside of the western systems. Both countries buy Russian military hardware. And if either country seizes Russian money then Russian oil, grain and weapons stop. Not going to happen.
