Poland has taken in 2.37 million refugees fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Polish Border Guard agency reported on Wednesday.
"Since February 24, a total of 2,368,000 people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine," it said in a tweet.
On Tuesday, 22,400 refugees from Ukraine arrived in the country, compared with around 21,000 a day earlier, according to the Polish Border Guard.
While most of those crossing the border are Ukrainian nationals, there are also citizens of many other countries among the refugees, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported, citing the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

Many do not want to go to Germany or points west - and we in Poland agree with them - Poland is closest in language and culture
If Poland has really taken in 2 million+ people, I’d argue that the governmemt likely doesn’t know for sure who the heck they are.
I can tell you with facts that they have registered them - you need a PESEL to carry out any financial transactions in Poland - including renting, getting a job, getting social security.
As to “who the heck they are” - well, besides that they have Ukrainian passports, not much, yes.
Folks with Bio print passports (the new passports) get their PESEL with little to no problem. The ones with the old passports have to furnish additional documents and references.
I don’t know about folks with no documentation what they are doing.
On the face of it, the Polish government must have a better idea of who they are than the US government has about the migrants coming across the US southern border.

How one gets a PESEL.
What could go wrong.
Given its low birth rates, many of these Ukrainians settling permanently in Poland and integrating would really help the country.
The situation in Poland with Ukrainian refugees cannot be compared with the situation in the USA with migrants.
Mexico is not being invaded and in many parts of Mexico, life is good.
The USA is expanding trade with Latin America but needs to work on a better path for legal immigration and probably even temporary workers (some people may be happy enough to come, earn money during picking seasons and then leave for home where they will get much more bang for their bucks)
Yes, in the mid to long term. The kids will learn Polish and when Putin leaves, Ukraine will still need rebuilding so people will stay here for some time.
however in the short term, these are young mothers with kids.
Translation: Ruh roh!
That’s in Germany. Poland has lower benefits so less of those false migrants
I don’t get your point.
you are saying to close the border to refugees?
I wonder how much is a grudging welcome.
Better Ukrainians than Muslims. Germany and France can have those.
