California’s first-in-the-nation task force on reparations is at a crossroads, with members divided on which Black Americans should be eligible for compensation as atonement for a slave system that officially ended with the Civil War but reverberates to this day.

And on television commercials. Anyhow I am currently a white Californian but if this passes I will racially transition to black.
uh, you mean “African-American”. /s
I don’t think there’s enough popcorn for how ugly this is going to get.
My grandmother was quite literally sold to a farmer in Sweden in about 1890. She lived in the barn and took care of the animals. (Almost certainly sexually abused as well.) I want my money!
(Dad born in 1916. I’m 68. I still agonize every day over this. /s)
African American is passe and has been replaced by Afro Heritage Americans.
Because the lefties won't let it die. Thanks, Sharpton, Jackson, et al.
Logically, any black person, anyone that identified themselves as a black person, and anyone who knows a black person (because they ‘suffered’, too) should all receive reparations.
Isn’t everyone black, really?
If only Orville Redenbacher could have lived to see this.
/sarc for those blacks in Rio Linda.

The whitish white man alive. The Original Corn Pop.

The shear foolishness of this exercise is embarrassing. Talk about a circular firing squad...we’ll see whom is left standing. It’s the ‘virtue Olympics’.
“Black reparations panel divided on who should get compensation...”
AFTER they stuff their OWN pockets!!
Isn’t everyone black, really?

What about families of non-slave-holding union soldiers who died? Not only were they not guilty of slavery, but they were part of the solution.
That’s when the cracks in logic and reason really start propagate. They’ll say that the north fought to preserve the Union.
Okay, then what about white-skin pre-civil war abolitionists? Do they get reparations, or at least an exemption card? John Brown may have been a mad man, but you can’t say he doesn’t just about more cred than anyone in this arena.
Do people with south asian ancestry who have dark skin get reparations. What about Kamala? Wouldn’t she and people like her be dividing the pie and taking reparations away from the ‘more deserving’?
Just tax everyone in Alanta, Philly, and DC to pay for it.
The slave owners owed reparations to the slaves. Since they’re all dead, the question is moot.
Because California was such a big slave owning state, right?
I’m sure the Native Americans would sign up for some big time reparations from California.
The end of the war ended slavery in the defeated Confederate states.
Union slave states clung to slavery until the 13th amendment was passed.
