Not currently gold backed, though perhaps in the future along with a gold backed Yuan. With Russia and China collaborating on this to destroy the US Dollar. If Rus and CCP can pull this off gradually (the only way this can be done), then AU will go to $10000 or more. Not immediately, but gradually.

Anyways the Chinese are mining AU as fast as they can. Their AU mining is much more extensive than Russia’s. Lots of Chinese gold mining is shrouded and not made public. ChiCom gold reserves are 5x larger than Russia’s. In any China-Rus alliance the Rus will be junior partners and default oil/gas suppliers to China.
