BERLIN (AP) — The world needs to take “radical action” to shift away from fossil fuels and ensure global warming doesn’t pass dangerous thresholds, the head of the International Renewable Energy Agency said Tuesday.
The agency’s 348-page report concluded that investments of $5.7 trillion in renewable energy are needed globally each year until 2030 to reduce emissions and meet the goals of the Paris climate accord. Currently those emissions are going up, not down.
“The energy transition is far from being on track and anything short of radical action in the coming years will diminish, even eliminate chances to meet our climate goals,” said Francesco La Camera, the director-general of IRENA.
Abu Dhabi-based IRENA suggested that investments of $700 billion should be diverted away from the fossil fuel sector annually to avoid creating wells, pipelines and power plants that can’t be used anymore.
This was echoed by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who called for an end to private sector financing for coal power, which surged to record highs last year.
“Lenders need to recognize that coal and fossil fuels are futile investments that will lead to billions of dollars in stranded assets,” he said.
With some countries ramping up domestic fossil fuel production amid energy price hikes and fears of supply shortages because of Russia’s war in Ukraine, Guterres urged governments not to delay the shift away from fossil fuels.
“The current crisis shows that we must accelerate, not slow, the renewable energy transition,” he said. “This is the only true path to energy security.”

Hm. I thought the goal was to stop climate change, not attain "energy security".
It begs the question: "If that is the goal, how are they defining "energy security"? Because as the power outage in Texas last year showed us, renewable energy is anything but secure.
The global warming hoax proceeds. This nonsense of restricting energy use to approved sources will impoverish most of the world. Our basic freedoms will be further limited. Who benefits from this policy? We all know the answer.
“Climate goals” need honest debate.
They got the buzzards breath, prog blues
Free video by me
Buzzard breath
Isn’t climate goals just taxing goals?
Yes, all that are willing to have buzzard breath, maybe a few 1000 years as buzzards would make the demons repent, probably not..
Let’s find out
They got the buzzards breath may as well be buzzards..
So I wrote a music video about it .free..prog blues

Yes, the overthrow of tyranny.
The response to this claptrap is NO THEY DON’T. AND RUN THEM OUT OF TOWN.
What the people of the world better do is to forget all that crap and get ready to defend their their homes, their families and their country.. :(
And the most likely vehicle to accomplish this is fission nuclear plants. Hot Fusion is a massive boondoggle. Build fission nukes, and build repositories for the waste. It is all doable....
OK, just a quick question for the Chicken Little Lumphead Global Warming Chix: Where is the analysis of the CO2 etc etc etc cost to produce the Windmills, solar panels, lithium-ion batteries and other “green” energy implements vs. what we are doing now? I know, because producing those “implements” will put WAY more pollutants in the air, not even mentioning the social cost of having slaves (YES I SAID IT) mine all of the rare earth stuff to make them.
The real goal is this: they want us DEAD.
Thank you for the video. Very inventive. You could add at least three more buzzards to the three you depicted: Gates, Schwab and Soros.
And while your at it publicly demand that algore sell his beachfront mansion in Malibu and that Osama Obama sell his beachfront mansions in Massachusetts and Hawaii!
I agree with what you are saying. But we shouldn't accept their premise that CO2 is a pollutant. Or that an increase in CO2 levels in any way harms the world. The earth was more green and prosperous when CO2 levels were much higher than they are now. Plants love CO2.
All of this "carbon footprint" nonsense is simply a part of the overall hoax.
I totally agree. CO2 is plant food, ALL life on Earth is carbon based, God created this earth with a core that manufactures resources to support life, we are on an axis that creates seasons, and the Sun has cycles to make sure there are cleansing times.. All by heavenly design..
Agreed. I love my solar system on my house. It'll pay for itself, especially as the Dim overlords keep jacking up the cost of energy. But it's produced only 56% of the power I consumed since I installed it last May. I still need power from traditional sources.
A beef I have with the premise of the IREA:
"The world needs to take 'radical action' to shift away from fossil fuels and ensure global warming doesn’t pass dangerous thresholds, the head of the International Renewable Energy Agency said Tuesday."
Global warming ain't gonna "pass" some "dangerous thresholds". We'd be lucky if the Modern Warm Period got as hot as the Medieval Warm Period did a thousand years ago, but I doubt it will. The trend for the past few thousand years is each centuries-long warm period isn't as hot as the prior one. Evidently, the Holocene Epoch topped out about five to six thousand years ago and we've been cooling ever since with some brief periods ("brief" being centuries at a time) of warmth. That's a shame too, because the Modern Warm Period, Medieval Warm Period, Roman Warm Period, and Minoan Warm Period are the times the world experiences the highest crop yields, the most predictable rain patterns, and the less plagues. The most problems occur during the cooling periods (Little Ice Age, Dark Age, and Greek Dark Age).
Many if not all commercial growers use CO2 generators in their greenhouses to boost production. Amazing people buy into the poison insanity.
U.N. third worlders telling US how to live. I don’t think so. I think if we defund the U.N., the “climate” will take care of itself. It always does.
