How many kids have ruined their lives over an ounce of weed?
Stoopid the law is.
Make it legal as most have tried it at one point or another.

It makes perfect sense. Legalization is a tool to keep people soft minded, pliable and easily influenced. Why have a war on tobacco because of health but legalize widespread use of marijuana? Smoking is a public health crisis no matter what’s being smoked.

Before arriving in ATL I had never met so many users. I joke about it being the state flower of GA because I never seem far from the odor. Try having a relationship with someone addicted to weed or handling the disruption of someone selling at work. I had no opinion when I was young and Libertarians were pushing their pot legalization narrative in colleges. Since I didn’t partake it didn’t seem to effect me. I am a live and let live type but I am tired of contact highs just because I am out shopping for groceries. Your responsible drunkenness doesn’t effect me. You being LOUD in public exposes me to your drug use and effects my well-being. Hard NO from me.

In the past, there have been many stories on Free Republic about marijuana legalization. And quite a few people here are in favor of legalizing marijuana. This issue is one on which conservatives here are really split on.

As long as I have the right not to hire people who use marijuana.

I don’t know employment law. But I suspect that you wouldn’t be able to have the legal right to not hire people who use marijuana, if marijuana is a fully legal substance.

Well, here we are... 46 replies in...
And only 1 person has brought up weather the feds have the right, under the constitution, to render this illegal, to have it criminalized.
This power was not specifically granted to the fed.
It is a states rights issue.

We got people, standing in line, bitching about overreach by the fed, yet championing this particular overreach.

Amazing

Yes, it has. The British have been using roadside test gear for years to bust people driving while high.

Regardless some states and more are coming along every year allow this product to be manufactured, sent to distributorships and then to retail outlets. In Washington during March only, there were over 30 retail shops robbed at gun point.

These are cash only operations because of the Federal banking rules. March was a particularly deadly month. 3 robbers were shot & killed. Several employees were shot during the robberies and one died last week after taking 3 shots to the gut.

Who care about the criminals but the kids that have been wounded or killed do not deserve to be targets. The one who got killed was a graphic artist working3 jobs to pay his college tuition, a good kid from a loving family that has been devastated. That’s not right. 60% of the states voters voted for this, protection of the employees are paramount, don’t you think?

Until the Feds change the banking rules, we’re going to continue seeing Wild West conditions between the evil hombres and the folks trying to etch out a living in a legal but controversial career.

Indeed, and this particular product brings the usurpers out of the shadows like no other.

Do it. Prisons should be for violent offenders.

a change that has come about in part because of the way past drug laws have disproportionately hit minority communities.

That's because illegal drugs are disproportionately used by people in minority communities.

EVERY SINGLE business that has a delivery van driver will have to do daily drug tests.

IF you lose your job because of drug use-—do you still get to collect UNEMPLOYMENT????

I know a guy who openly states that he has at least 5 years of his life he cannot remember.

Cost him his home-wife-kids-and his career until he straightened up.

He has more than a few regrets.

“... a change that has come about in part because of the way past drug laws have disproportionately hit minority communities.”

I think this is the interesting bit. We’re decriminalizing it, not because marijuana use is safe (probably not), or the people are clamoring for legalization (they might be) or because it is just the right thing to do, but rather the laws outlawing put too many minorities in jail.

The laws agains murder have “disproportionately hit minority communities” as well.

Bet the business insurance company will weigh in on this.

Workmen’s Comp insurance, in particular——too many injuries likely when not lucid. SOME of which can be lifetime long.

ANY business with a delivery van driver also cannot keep that vehicle INSURED.

A stoned driver at the wheel of a florist truck can cause a lot of mayhem.

I wonder: How many dollars of the $27 TRILLION spent on Welfare have actually then been spent on drugs????????

Good point. There are many issues involved with legalizing marijuana, decriminalizing, whatever legal status we are talking about. And a number of such issues can touch on labor law and employment.

I think most would agree, that impaired delivery drivers are dangerous. I think all would agree that we wouldn’t want drunk delivery drivers, so similarly, we don’t want delivery drivers high on marijuana.

That is a liberal talking point. And if your ID gets stolen, and your credit ruined, will you say the same thing?

Great post—when the Democrats say “legalize” they mean bury the business in regulations and taxes.
