Without Russia, science going solo on world’s woes, dreams

PARIS (AP) — Without Russian help, climate scientists worry how they’ll keep up their important work of documenting warming in the Arctic.

Europe’s space agency is wrestling with how its planned Mars rover might survive freezing nights on the Red Planet without its Russian heating unit.

And what of the world’s quest for carbon-free energy if 35 nations cooperating on an experimental fusion-power reactor in France can’t ship vital components from Russia?

In scientific fields with profound implications for mankind’s future and knowledge, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine is causing a swift and broad decaying of relationships and projects that bound together Moscow and the West. Post-Cold War bridge-building through science is unraveling as Western nations seek to punish and isolate the Kremlin by drying up support for scientific programs involving Russia.

The costs of this decoupling, scientists say, could be high on both sides. Tackling climate change and other problems will be tougher without collaboration and time will be lost.

I thought the remote observation data collections of global temperatures was ill refutable?

They use remote data, observed data and proxy data so interchangeably the loss of one half of the arctic data should not be a problem.

Not sure why AP is so worried. Russia will take its expertise (some of which is really good, by the way) and work with China now.

They’ll be fine.

Nuclear weapons are just a bluff. Moreover, they are not national weapons but weapons to be controlled by globalists to ensure global peace and prosperity.

Putin should just resign and submit to the international court to be charged for war crimes.

“One hopes that time won’t tell.”

Actually, I wouldn’t mind him lighting off a few in the Russian Arctic, as part of a ‘test program’ to verify they’re ready for use. Might help the hippies now running the West to remember what they spent the entire Cold War protesting.

The old guys used to suggest that every decade one ought to be set off in the remote South Pacific with all the world's politicians invited to watch, just to remind them of the tremendous destructive force they are holding in their hands.

Just to scare the piss out of them.

AP announces sweeping climate journalism initiative

Feb. 15, 2022

The Associated Press announced today it will significantly expand its climate coverage, creating a standalone desk that will enhance the global understanding of climate change and its impact across the world.

The initiative will infuse the global media landscape with a new stream of quality climate journalism through both AP content and in-depth training and collaboration directly with AP’s thousands of customers worldwide.

The news agency will also launch an AP StoryShare network for climate coverage, allowing news organizations to share their content with one another and in turn provide more robust coverage for their audiences.

The expansion is supported by several philanthropic organizations, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Quadrivium and The Rockefeller Foundation. AP retains complete editorial control of all content.

“Unbiased, fact-based journalism has never been more important or imperiled,” said Larry Kramer, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. “The Associated Press has, for over a century, played a crucial role reporting on the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change. The climate initiative will build on AP’s legacy of independent journalism and help millions better understand the impact of the climate crisis and counter climate-related misinformation.”

What! The Russians are going to travel to Mars and repossess the heating unit?

Can’t they just make up their data or jiggle their models? That hasn’t slowed them down in the past.
