Ukrainian troops take back parts of Kherson from Russian forces: US

Ukrainian forces have retaken control of parts of the strategically crucial city of Kherson, the Pentagon said Friday.

Kherson — which sits at the mouth of the Dnieper River that bisects Ukraine and is directly north of the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014 — was the first and only major population center that had been taken by Russian forces since the start of the invasion last month.

“Kherson is contested territory again,” a senior US defense official said, adding that Russian forces no longer control the area and Ukrainians were continuing to wage a fierce fight there.

I’ve looked at multiple news oulets reporting on this, NBC, ABC, etc, and can’t find the name of the official making the claims about Kherson.

No, it doesn’t, not necessarily. Other news outlets may supply the name of the official but I couldn’t find it on Twitter nor on NBC or ABC.

But I am beginning to suspect it’s the usual anonymous sources thingy.

I wonder if it's one of the same 'senior US officials' who "confirmed" the phony "Trump/Russia collusion" hoax, or maybe a different 'senior US official' who just wants to remain anonymous because - who knows - maybe he has acne or something.

"The world wonders"...

May well be true, but we’re still getting only the Zelensky side of the story in an undeclared war.

Gee, the media has such a great record on the veracity of anonymous sources, how could anyone doubt this one?

A new low for the media - first it says the Pentagon is the source; then later switches that to anonymous. Nonfalsifiable is not the same thing as true.

One of these days we are going to wake up finding that Russia has most of the Ukraine and wonder what happened? We will also be wondering why Chinese troops were landing in Taiwan, Russians in the Baltics, and North Korean ones in Soeul. If that happens expect a media whitewash.

About the only thing that "conservatives" can agree on anymore is the Second Amendment.

Makes you wonder if the term "conservative" still has any real meaning or utility.

My friend fighting in Kiev says the Ukrainian DOD denies these reports. He says it’s fake news.

This trick has been used on conservatives more than can be counted yet some still fall for the tricks. Sad.

Uke disinformation is wiping the floor with russian disinformation.
,
Since the Russian offensive inside Ukraine commenced on February 24, the Ukrainian military has cultivated the image of a plucky little army standing up to the Russian Goliath. To bolster the perception of Ukrainian military mettle, Kiev has churned out a steady stream of sophisticated propaganda aimed at stirring public and official support from Western countries. The campaign includes language guides, key messages, and hundreds of propaganda posters, some of which contain fascist imagery and even praise Neo-Nazi leaders.
Behind Ukraine’s public relations effort is an army of foreign political strategists, Washington DC lobbyists, and a network of intelligence-linked media outlets.

Except this time the Ukrainians are denying a victory that Washington is claiming. My friend in Kiev had to be evacuated from Irpin at the start of the war. He’d be cheering from the rooftops if Kherson were liberated. It hasn’t been, according to him.

Ukrainians did score two successes in Kherson:

1. They managed to hit the airport with Tochka-U (basically a Scud).

2. They managed to assassinate the driver of a pro-Russian politician.

Extrapolation from these achievements to capturing Kherson (or even getting close to it) is a bit too much.

...

As for Irpin.. I think it is the frontline now, Russia did not confirm liberating it yet... I think.

I’d be inclined to think that your friend has more reliable sources. Also there’s no mention of Kherson fighting from youtube terain mapping sources.
- Ukes gained ground west of Kiev.(including Irpin area)
-Rus gained ground in DPR.
- 10K troops amassed on belarus border
- no change between Molotov and Kherson
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRTq5KxoyKuquatzn2iF0Pg
- DPR flag hoisted in downtown Mariupol
- 3K to 7K Azovs still fighting
.more detail of RUS DPR gains
- Izyum under russian control
- Kharkov airport damaged
- Rus in outskirts of DPL capitol
-ukes shelling Kherson (i think but subtitles are tough)

Hopefully, you are wearing your asbestos suit -

no doubt the usual crowd of Putin bootlickers and lackeys will appear to do battle with the usual crowd of Deep State toadies and lickspittles

Also — is this the same NY Post that lost its Twitter account because it broke the story about the Hunter Biden laptop? Those also were unnamed sources initially — were they the same ones reporting from their mother’s basement?

it’s become a joke that on Free Republic, credibility isn’t driven by the track record of the news outlet — but whether the reported facts comport with the respective Freeper’s views on Ukraine or whatever.
