There is a “realistic possibility” that Russian forces “facing considerable supply and morale issues” may be encircled by Ukrainian counter-attackers near Kyiv (Kiev).
“Ukraine is increasing pressure on Russian forces north-east of Kyiv. Russian forces along this axis are already facing considerable supply and morale issues,” the British government’s Ministry of Defence asserted in a Defence Intelligence update on Wednesday.
“Ukrainian forces are carrying out successful counter attacks against Russian positions in towns on the outskirts of the capital, and have probably retaken Makariv and Moschun,” they continued, adding that “There is a realistic possibility that Ukrainian forces are now able to encircle Russian units in Bucha and Irpin.”
BBC editor Jeremy Bowen has also suggested that Ukrainian troops have been “telling me for a few days that Bucha [is] encircled” and that Russian supply lines in Irpin are being struck.
New York Times reporting based on what are claimed to be Russian radio communications intercepted by ham radio enthusiasts do suggest the invaders have been put under significant pressure in Makariv and suffered from a lack of air support and fuel — although The Washington Post reported on Thursday that “reality doesn’t match [Ukrainian] government boasts of victory” in the Kyiv suburb, with the Russians still controlling part of it and the Ukrainians “under constant shelling of enemy artillery”.

I seriously doubt that it was actual Russian military conversations intercepted, and given the multitude of examples like the fake Ghost of Kiev, the MSM saying the Snake Island military not surrendering when they did, a multitude of fake pics put out by the MSM, etc, they have no credibility.

Yes, that’s what it says. Many HAM operators are capable of receiving signals far outside the bands they’re authorized to broadcast on.
I have a GMRS license but the radio sets I use are capable of monitoring frequencies I’m not legally permitted to broadcast on. No where does the article state that the Russians are broadcasting on the HAM bands.
It merely states that HAM operators received them.

During the North African campaign in WWII, German tank commanders were using units operating on the 10 meter band (just above CB freqs), and were picked up by amateur operators in the states due to skip conditions.
That said, I’m sure both parties are using encryption and VHF/UHF freqs today, so interception would be much tougher.
Depends which Ham radio receiver you are using. Our R390A radios picked up Russian mil, ham, commercial.

Intercepting Russian mil comms has been a common intercept since at least the 1950s. In fact, their comms have significantly degraded since the Cold War days to the point of using cell phones.

The Russian military is using ancient radio technology for communications. There is a very large British plane absolutely crammed with listeners and their equipment. The Brits relay target info to Ukrainians who dispatch drones with eyes for target acquisition that in turn advise and direct other drones armed with what are being called grenades to strike the target with absolute precision. Almost no drones have been lost to Russian ground fire
The Flying Brits have located command and control radio emitting centers and have killed 15 ranking commanders including 5 generals. The effect of the loss of the commanders and staffs is not actually known but it must be significant
You can watch the Brits in action on you tube. I’m not making this up. There are also videos of the actual Russian transmissions.
