Russian troops trying to surround the city of Kyiv are now at risk of getting surrounded themselves after Ukrainian forces went on the counter-attack, with footage showing a tank getting blown to smithereens and rocket artillery raining down on Putin's troops.
Heavy fighting is going on to both the west and east of Kyiv as Ukrainian troops - who have suffered through a month of dogged defending under heavy bombardment - are attempting to retake the initiative from Russian invaders by launching attacks of their own.
Makariv and Moschun, two cities to the west of the capital, have 'probably' been re-taken by Kyiv's troops - the British Ministry of Defence said overnight - meaning there is now a 'realistic possibility that Ukrainian forces are able to encircle Russian units at Bucha and Irpin'.
If those units - which include part of a 40-mile convoy spied near the Ukrainian capital in the early days of the war - do get surrounded, then they will be unable to reinforce or resupply themselves and may end up surrendering, inflicting one of the largest defeats on the Russian military of the entire war.
Ukraine has also forced back Russian troops to the east of the city, according to the Pentagon, driving them between 15 and 20 miles down the main highway in the direction of Chernihiv. Counter-attacks are also known to be underway at Mykolaiv and Kherson, in the south, and Izyum, in the north-east.

If the Russians get desperate enough (and if they are organized and care enough about their own troops to do it), they surely have the artillery and rockets and heavy bombers etc. to turn up the heat very high on any attackers.

We tracked that ship. Nice job.
I guess we did send the Ukrainians a couple of the “600” class switchblade drones. Oops.
I wonder if they snuck a few Harpoons in there as well. I would hate to be a Russian Marine in a landing craft off of Odessa (for more than a month now) moving towards the shore with a bunch of drones over my head, and harpoons and javelins facing me.
That would suck. LOL.
Russia made the decision that it can’t fight on six fronts, and in the last week concentrated everything in the east where they hope they can make progress.
What that means is that 50K Russian troops in the west and the north have been left with minimal support and are being pushed back by the Ukrainians.
There appears to be oil tanks also on fire next to the LST. The whole pier is a loss.

Looks like there was no need for US/NATO troops on the ground, or even a “no-fly zone” - the Ruskie soldiers apparently couldn’t find their own backsides, if they were soaking wet & freezing in the bottom of a foxhole. In retrospect, all the stories about the ‘danger’ of Putin invading NATO countries were just ‘jump-the-shark’ clickbait, and some of the suggestions (like the US giving nukes to the Ukrainians ;>) were obviously moon-bat-crazy!
