Western officials say as Russia's forces continue to show signs of crumbling Western officials have said that Moscow made a 'catastrophic miscalculation' Russian advance into Ukraine has been stalled by fierce Ukrainian resistance Therefore, it is expected that Russia will change tactics in its assault on Ukraine Officials said they expect Russia to consolidate its forces in eastern Donbas

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to change tactics and focus his firepower on the east of Ukraine, according to Western officials, abandoning plans to seize vase swathes of his neighbouring country.

When Russia unleashed its multi-pronged invasion on February 24, a swift toppling of Ukraine and it democratically elected government seemed likely.

But with Wednesday marking four full weeks of fighting, Russia is bogged down in a grinding military campaign, and is being pushed back in some regions.

The slow Russian progression has seemingly taken the Kremlin by surprise, and Western officials have said that Moscow made a 'catastrophic miscalculation'.

As such, it is expected that Russia will change its military tactics in Ukraine and instead consolidate its supplies and logistical efforts in the eastern Donbas region.

Speaking to The Times, one western official said Ukraine's intelligent resistance had 'derailed' Russia's flawed plans, which had at the heart of them the assumption that Ukrainians would allow Russia to roll into their country without much of a fight.

‘I think what’s clear is that the original Russian plan of being able to have three separate axis of manoeuvre, operate them all simultaneously, and achieve their objectives quickly has been frustrated,’ the official told the newspaper.

They went on to say that they expect Russia to continue its medieval bombardment of Ukraine’s cities, and focus its efforts in the east - rather than trying to push further across the country.

In an apparent demonstration of this, a video reportedly showed Russian helicopters being towed by military trucks 25 miles south-east of Kherson, a Ukrainian town found in the south of the country near the border with the Crimean peninsula.

At the time, commentators were unsure what to make of the video, but as Ukrainian forces are not only defending, but now mounting counterattacks against Russian forces in key battlegrounds, it appears the helicopters may have been retreating.

Kherson was the only major city to have been seized by Putin’s forces since the start of the invasion on February 24.

But satellite images of a Kherson airfield - held by Russia since early march and which five days ago was hosting four helicopters - showed it free of any of Moscow’s aircraft, according to The Daily Telegraph.

How do we know this wasn’t the plan all along, that the faux all-out assault wasn’t done to aid and abet fellow Deep States now that the CoupFlu scam is toast...

And Pootie gets what he really was after, with no genuine fight, for being such a good sport.

I don't think Putin's goal was ever to conquer all of Ukraine. He wanted to outright claim the breakaway areas in the Donblass area, where he has been funding the separatists in a civil war since 2014, and to formalize his taking of Crimea and continue to capture the rest of Ukraine's coastline ports along the Black Sea.

The Dnieper River will more or less be the border between Russian controlled and independent Ukraine.

Assuming this projection to be true, and there is very good reason to believe that it is true, one asks what then are the parties fighting for?

If Russia's gains are to be limited to that which they effectively possessed, Donbas, while the rest is to be left to Ukraine, the parties will pretty much be where they were found ante bellum.

The question then of negotiating Ukraine's neutrality but economic integration with the West should be easy in view of the fact that Zelinskyy has already publicly stated that Ukraine will not be integrated into NATO.

There is very little left now for the parties to kill each other about. Putin can only lose more by continuing a battle of attrition which is essentially a defensive battle to retain what he had and Ukraine gains little in futile efforts to dislodge the Russians. Ukrainians would retain their democracy, such as that is, retain and enhance their economic and cultural ties to the West and continue to modernize.

Putin arranges for his personal survival, ends the agony and watches the sanctions fall away as allies cut deals.

How did those “coastline ports” leave the control of the Ottoman Empire?

I just said what I thought Putin's original plan was, not that he was succeeding at reaching all of its goals.

Originally he was supposed to capture Kviv quickly, force out the government, and install a puppet regime. That hasn't happened, either.

Russia has already won

Cool. So when does Putin declare victory?

Today? Since they've "already won"?

Awaiting your savvy prediction ...

If this article is correct, then it gives Pooty an exit plan and way to save face and his place in the pantheon of Rooski Tsars. Demented via long Covid, Pooty is very concerned about his Tsar status now, and in the history books.

Full or partial lifting of sanctions will be a key part of such Russian-Ukraine peace negotiations.

“Daily Mail, bastion of truth.”

I am pro-Ukraine, but will admit the UK Daily Mail coverage is highly slanted to the Ukrainians. It is a strong disseminator of Ukraine propaganda and I love it! All wars are propaganda fests. Now with the internet and Twitter, more than ever.

They are looking at may 5th, this was never planed as a quick operation. They want to eradicate the Nazi’s and leave the civilians alone. Why is are media and government so into supporting Nazi’s? I hate Nazi’s, then they kill their own people and blame Russia to get media and other help from western governments. Why did Russia eradicate Nazism after WW2, the US adopted them and their principles, then we have who the US really supports and trains. Very sad!!!
