“It’s called repealing the 17th Amendment.”
And then what? Our magnificent, unresponsive legislators appoint their pals for life.
Read up on how Senators were elected prior to the 17th Amendment.
Our Founding Father’s were not stupid
So another Freeper who doesn’t trust the wisdom of the Founding Fathers!
One of the arguments for the 17th amendment was the legislatures were too slow to fill vacancies. States would go months without Senate representation. So, it seemed to be a job no one was clamoring to get. Anyway, I contend every legislator if they had the right again to appoint senators would see him\herself in that job. The job would automatically be more competitive. Now senator are just a Congresscritter-at-large, the job of representing the states is a much lower priority. They’re captives of national party concerns first! The Founding Fathers intended the states to have a say in national & foreign policy through the senators, that’s effectively not the case now. It’s just another prom king\queen contest.
Adding term limits following the repeal would be gravy!
“And then what? Our magnificent, unresponsive legislators appoint their pals for life.”
The repeal 17th Amendment crowd can’t guarantee a better Senate or Senator because the Senate before & after is “the same” Senate.
The American establishment owns/owned the state legislatures, just as much as they did pre 17th Amendment.
Plus you’d never get a Senator “Trump Type” in the pre 17th Amendment Senate.
Nope, just McConnell Types who paid their party hack dues.
