Pence distances himself from Trump as he eyes 2024 campaign
AP ^ | 21 Mar 2022 | JILL COLVIN

After Donald Trump was caught on video bragging about sexually assaulting women, Mike Pence stayed on his ticket. As the coronavirus ravaged the U.S., the then-vice president praised the administration’s response. And after a violent mob threatened his life during an attack on the U.S. Capitol, Pence rejected entreaties to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

But after years of being a subservient sidekick, Pence is beginning to distance himself from Trump as he takes increasingly overt steps toward a White House bid of his own.

Last month, Pence called out Trump by name, saying his former boss was “wrong” to insist that he had the power to unilaterally overturn the results of the 2020 election — a power vice presidents do not possess. In a separate speech before top Republican donors, Pence urged the GOP to move on from Trump’s 2020 grievances and declared “there is no room in this party for apologists” for Vladimir Putin after Trump praised the Russian leader’s maneuvering as “genius” before his brutal invasion of Ukraine.

The moves show how Pence, a former congressman and Indiana governor, is working to craft a political identity independent of his former boss. The strategy carries substantial risk in a party still dominated by Trump and his lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

Pence distances himself from Trump

Pence doesn’t realize that’s like putting himself in a rubber raft in the middle of the Pacific. You’re just going to float around aimlessly and then die.

Trump has 95% approval of Republican base,
Pence has the other 5%

Pence is a disgrace.

The article starts immediately with a lie. Trump never "bragged about sexually assaulting women". He stated a simple fact about what some women will ALLOW a man to do of that man is some kind of a celebrity. He never indicated that this is something he did to anyone.

Acknowledging the existence and behavior of groupies is not "bragging about sexual assault".

__________

So we are to take from this that Pence was loyal, loyal, loyal, but at some point his independence of mind, unassailable integrity, and capacity to divine what’s best for the rest of us even as we repeatedly fail to make good decisions, all of these are driving him to emerge out from under Trump’s umbrella and bring us to the promise land.

Uhhh....no.

Nice try, but this transparently false narrative offered to promote Pence’s hidden brilliance and indispensable leadership is Dead On Arrival among actual people, actual voters.

Pence is just as empty a suit as Romney. His behavior leading up to, on, and since January 6th has revealed this to anyone who cares to notice.

Any Republican with presidential aspirations was a candidate in 2016. It was a free-for-all primary season with no incumbent … where the odds-on “favorite” was (remarkably) a guy named Bush whose retarded brother had poisoned the family name for at least the next 50 years.

If Mike Pence wasn’t even a presidential candidate in THAT scenario, then you can be sure he knows damn well that he’d never be elected himself.

Pence is as generic an establishment type as they come.

Even Super Mormon Mitt and McStain were less Generic.
He’ll never Be President.

Granted we said the same damn thing about that Pedo in the white Hospice.

He knows he can never be POTUS.

He also knows he can rake in millions for himself, family and friends in campaign cash if he goes through the motions.

“Pence is as generic an establishment type as they come.”

IMO, the current “establishment” inserted itself against the will of the American people and against the law.
