“He is making it up. There is no link I am sure.”
I know, but I still call out people making claims I know can’t be supported, or claiming to be able to read Putin’s mind. It’s kind of fun.
Stupid how?
Putin’s orders have already levelled the city. Already 80% of a bigger city than Miami is rubble. It’s beyond repair. In the last 48 hours they’ve sevt more. Chechen hardnuts into some ‘burbs, lobbed thermobarics into other high density civilian areas.
Russia claims it’s escorted a few thousand civilians to safety but those who left have disappeared off the radar. They had their phones taken off them.
If Russia was genuinely helping those folks wouldn’t it have made sense to let them all keep their phones, so they could relay their gratitude via social media?
Mariupol as a city no longer exists. The civilians cannot get out. Azov is killing civilians. So are Russian ground forces.
So I don’t think the civilians really care who’s killing them on the ground, or why... at least they’d have SOME chance of survival by hiding if there are some friendlies out there trying to keep them safe.
But against even more aerial bombardment and thermobarics - they don’t stand a chance. That’s where their heads are at. Burn or starve.
If Russia had an atom of concern for the Russians it professes to be defending it would allow those civilians to get out of Mariupol. Whether that’s north or west or east. It wouldn’t be asking Kiev to surrender the city first.
In three hour’s time we shall see if Putin’s ultimatum lives up to his innuendo. He has basically said anyone still holding a weapon by 5am then everyone with them will be treated as a combatant.
Question: does that include all women, children, the infirm, babies even, if the people with weapons are family and friends simply trying to protect them?
This isn’t a hypothetical question. Inside Russia, Putin’s security forces are treating anyone who even holds up a blank piece of card as if they’re insurrectionist.
The Ukrainian government does only what our Deep State tells them to do. The DS is responsible for this whole mess.
And it has given time for an estimated 3.6 million to leave Ukraine.
Another 10 million are internal refugees. With 25% of the population on the move, many of the eastern cities must be thinly populated by now.
“I don’t know if you guys know this, but MacArthur declared Manila an open city at the outset of WWII. It remained intact until he retook it later in the war. The Japanese were not as civilized as General MacArthur.”
Yeah, but its citizens were still brutalized by Japanese occupiers. Maritime assets in Manila Bay were bombed at the outset, primarily those across the Bay from the city, as the US Navy was using them. However, the Port of Manila did suffer some minor damage, not much, as the Japanese wanted to use it for their invasion of Indonesia.
But Manila was pretty much destroyed in 1945 when MacArthur “returned,” and the Battle of Manila was fought (that was a BRUTAL fight).
Okay, they will level your city stupid. Stupidity isn’t bravery.
——-
Exactly. Most don’t realize ( Ukraine government does) that city is a Neo-Nazi nest. That is why the city is in the process of being flattened. Vlad does what he says he will do- eradicate all Azov and Neo Nazi cities.
The Russians will probably ring it with artillery and pound it 24/7. Then they’ll send in the Chechens and Syrians to finish up...No quarter. It’ll be a meat grinder I’m afraid.
[It’s a viable strategy for a losing nation to refuse to surrender a city.
It’s imperative to know the extent of death and destruction the enemy is capable of, and willing to execute.
Mariupol will be sacrificed for this knowledge.
Resolution of all future sieges in this war depend on what happens here. It will be the model for both sides.
And it’s going to be effin’ ugly. WWII kinda ugly.]
No because supposedly it never was flown there. I don’t remember seeing it when I was fighting the battle supposedly rooting for Mexicans though. LOL
“The price of weakness is always paid in blood. Be careful what you wish for.”
Yup. Always.
Give in to the bully thats the smart move.
What right does Russia have to dictate what Ukraine can and can’t do? If China threatened to nuke us if we didn’t pull all anti PRC movies does that give them the moral high ground if we don’t obey?
Chechens and Syrians are already on the ground from what the volunteers have said that got out of Ukraine. ...and that it’s already a meat grinder.
That time some silly, zero-cred n00b ran his, silly, zero-cred hole.
STFU.
if you root for america you shouldn’t be cheering the recreation of the USSR.
I think this is on a somewhat higher level than bully vs non bully. They don’t have to give in. Sounds like many regular citizens don’t want to hold out because they want to live. Understandable.
“You truly need to catch up even on a little bit of history.”
Too funny. My university degree is in history. I’ve studied history my entire life, and even at this late stage (I am in my 70s) I still read history.
So, pray, to just what “little bit of history” are you referring?
“Fact remains, they still haven’t been totally cut off.”
No doubt about it.
Taking advice from people who want you to lose is never a smart move. Putin has made it clear that he believes Ukraine is an illigimate nation and intends to erase it from the map. Given that the only option here is to fight for every inch and send as many invaders home in bags as possible.
Russia humiliatingly had a naval captain KIA in this land battle yesterday for Mariupol. Putinist Russia has proven to be everything it claims Ukraine is: corrupt and hollow.
How about a recreation of Imperial Russia?
Drop the Cold War imagery this an attempt to revive the old Russian Imperium.
I am not saying I’m for I’m saying what is!
It must be thought of in those terms.
