Ukraine's President Zelensky addresses Israeli Knesset

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Israeli lawmakers in an online speech via Zoom Sunday evening.

Days after his address to the US Congress, Zelensky gave a speech online to Israeli Knesset Members and government ministers, emphasizing his Jewish heritage and the unity between Israel and Diaspora Jewish communities.

Zelensky opened his address with a quote from Golda Meir, a native of Kyiv, and claimed that Ukrainians and Jews worldwide share a connection “in the past and the present.”

“I don’t have to convince you that our peoples are connected, the Jews and the Ukrainians in the past and the present, terrible times.”

The Ukrainian president drew parallels between Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24th, and the German Nazi Party’s rise to power, noting that the party presented its 25-Point Program calling for the total segregation of Jews in Germany and the ending of their legal rights as citizens.

“The 24th of February will go down in history as being a day of tragedy in Ukraine twice over – for Ukraine, for the Jews, for Europe, and for the world as a whole.”

“On the 24th of February, 1920, the National Socialist German Workers' Party - the Nazi Party – the party which murdered millions and destroyed entire countries” revealed its plan against German Jews.

I vote in Israel. I want my government here to do that. I do pay taxes as well as voting, so yes, I’m buying.

Israel has real issues to deal with right now—like Iran.

Trying to get as much money and weapons before he makes a truce with Russia.

Not so sure that Israel wants to send money/weapons that will just end up in the hands of Azov brigade

He wants them to send him what he needs. So of course he has to make speeches. Churchill’s first speech before the US Congress required a perilous trans-Atlantic flight to get there. VZ’s got Internet, so he just has to stay in Kiev and Zoom around the world, while under siege.

Good.

Knock yourself out.

But if you can afford it and know how... why did America have to pay for yours?

The Azov brigade is aiming their rifles at Russian soldiers, whatever their personal politics might be. If they try redo-ing Baba Yar, you can talk about their uniforms. In the mean time, it’s a distraction.

These type of things have ways of blowing up in your face later (like the Mujahideen)

America, for reasons of its own, has been sending over aid since 1967 when Israelis proved they can fight against overwhelming odds and win. I didn’t ask them to do it. America and Israel developed Iron Dome together, but Israel pays for its own units. If you don’t want to pay for anything in Israel, knock yourself out. Write your Congressman. America doesn’t “have” to do anything for anyone.

Knock yourself out regardless. I’m sure the booze is already below the label by now.

Or like Stalin double-crossing the US and UK and grabbing Eastern Europe and half of Germany after the war. Sure. If an Azov Brigadier grabs an Iron Dome unit and goes postal in the Knesset with it, you can say “I told you so.” One deals with one proven mass murderer hell-bent on grabbing territory at a time. Later there’ll be time to deal with the dress-up girls of the Azov.

If you were five years old, this remark would be an attempt at negative attention getting. As you are well over fifty, it’s probably a sign of early onset dementia. Whatever, it’s incomprehensible.

Then maybe Damascus gets some S-500s.

You're well advised to stay on the porch.

“Then maybe Damascus gets some S-500s.”

Russia and Iran are both in Syria. From my porch I can see IAF recon sorties flying over Jordan and Syria, and every once in a while a missile launched at an Iranian or Hizbollah target within Syria or Lebanon. If Assad doesn’t already have S-500s, he’s probably got something better.

You’re well advised to stop viewing the world through your TV screen. It’s a mirage.

...and my advice is you STAY on your porch unless you want someone firing missiles back at you. Syria doesn't have the latest Russian anti-missile tech, but that may change if Israel sticks its nose where it doesn't belong.

Syria doesn’t have the latest Russian anti-missile tech,

What? Vlad told you this himself? Blabbermouth. Now he’s going to find you and kill you.

Whatever Syria does or does not have, Israel already has an understanding not to go after Assad or the Russian garrisons, so long as Assad stays on his good behavior. Whatever happens elsewhere happens elsewhere.

” but that may change if Israel sticks its nose where it doesn’t belong.”

Israel’s nose remains in Israel, but some of its Iron Dome system belongs in Ukraine, because we can, because it’s purely defensive, and because Russia in Syria is already a bad thing, and if Putin is humiliated in Ukraine, he will be discredited at home, and maybe even pull his troops out of Syria so they can come home and strafe some anti-Putin demonstrators. It could be the beginning of the end of Putin’s mis-rule AND his presence in Syria.

” unless you want someone firing missiles back at you.”

Been there, done that, missiles out of Lebanon and out of Ghaza. Syria is not likely to get frisky. They tried that in ‘48, ‘67 and ‘73, and it didn’t end well for them. Arabs fear humiliation more than death, and Israel beating them repeatedly is to them about the equivalent of the BMOC jock getting repeatedly knocked out in front of the whole school by Steve Urkel. But if they want to do missiles, every house in Israel has an air-raid shelter, and we have some missiles, too, and world-class pilots, second only to the US Navy’s.
