Is Putin going to launch a nuclear war?

March 18, 2022 6:55 pm by Oleg Sukhov

Days after launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin ordered to put his country’s nuclear deterrent forces on alert, effectively threatening the world with a nuclear war.

With the ongoing military invasion proving to be extremely costly for Russia, the key question now is whether Putin is bluffing.

When starting the invasion, Putin said that any outside country trying to interfere in the war in Ukraine would face “consequences that they have never seen in their history,” which can be interpreted as the threat of nuclear war.

Russia’s decision to bolster its nuclear capabilities has allegedly affected NATO’s decision-making.

While U.S. President Joe Biden said that Americans should not worry about a possible nuclear threat, he has also demonstrated he is ready to go to great lengths to avoid escalation with Russia. While the U.S. has continued supplying weapons to Ukraine, it refused to supply fighter jets that Ukraine has been asking for, or to approve a NATO-imposed no-fly zone over Ukraine.

I’d like to think that there are some sane Generals in the Russian military who would not comply with any order to launch nukes.

Everyone worries about what Putin will do. If Trump was in office Putin would be worrying about what Trump will do.

The real problem is that our “leadership” has no concept what a nuclear exchange means. For some reason they think they are immune to anything that affects the little people.

Sorry, they’re not like generals in the US when it comes to Trump.

But Putin does have many options short of blowing up cities, and I suspect he’ll put some in work if things really get bogged down for him.

They talk about Russias nukes being on a dead-hand switch, and Putin did make the reference to should be no world without Russia. That would come into play if there were a first strike (which there win’t be). What could be more problematic would be if the switch were somehow tied to Putin’s staying alive, if its true that he has fired 1,000 people recently because he thought someone was trying to poison him. Last thing you need is all the routines to be shaken up with a bunch of new people on the job. No idea if he intends to nuke someone.

Interesting story. Let’s pray that there are men in the Russian military who have the same wisdom he had.

Cowboy 57 - James Stewart narrates B-52 alert operations.

Thank God Barksdale AFB still runs this way.

If he isn’t going Dresden on the cities why would he?
They’re trying to keep most infrastructure intact.

"When starting the invasion, Putin said that any outside country trying to interfere in the war in Ukraine would face “consequences that they have never seen in their history,” which can be interpreted as the threat of nuclear war.

It can be interpreted that way, but inasmuch as Putin has previously stated that the next war would be fought, "with ones and zeros," I think it more likely he was suggesting crippling cyberattacks on critical infrastructure.

The problem is that many of our leaders think they can keep a Russia/NATO war conventional, and deal them a defeat, and parlay that into Moscow regime change.
They also believe there are lower level exchanges of nukes that can happen.
This is some 1914 level calculation.

U.S. President Joe Biden ... has also demonstrated he is ready to go to great lengths to avoid escalation with Russia.

How has he done that? Prior to the invasion Tater Brain seemed to be doing all he could to antagonize Russia and encourage the invasion.

Nothing sells "news" stories like nukes.

The Propaganda Media is trying to make Putin out to be Saddam Hussein.

Moronic. He spelled it the way everyone in the west had spelled it back into the 1800s at least. Nobody has ever ordered “Kyiv Chicken” before. It was a boutique way of spelling it until after 2014. Ukes started scrambling to learn “Ukrainian”. It’s like learning Welch or Gaelic. Hell even Zelensky was a native Russian speaker and had to learn Ukrainian.

And you expect geezers here at FR to learn the new and trendy way? Want fries with that? LOL
