We have lots of people here who are willing to fight to the last Ukrainian.
Ukraine has a bunch of neo-Nazi “militia” who train with and are essentially part of the Ukrainian army and were mostly stationed in the Donbass and spent their time attacking ethnic Russians because of Ukrainian territorial aspirations.
They’ve been appealing for foreign fighters, and apparently some Americans were stupid enough to go.

I'm not defending the guy at all as I don't know what happened. However, you really SHOULDN'T disparage a lot of other Freepers you do NOT know, nor their actual reactions to threats, etc. -- I have no need to defend my character/actions/proposed actions to you or anyone else, but, when it comes down to it, try to find truthful news on what happened after I or many others on here am/are threatened or attacked. Just about the whole world has gone crazy.
See if you can find a way to be more respectful and circumspect. Direct your invective towards the administration which is apparently clueless.
The movie is more interesting the way they did it. Also, this was the battle for Stalingrad, and I believe they were taking a rare occurrence and showing it in the movie. It is stupid to shoot your own troops as a matter of policy but isolated instance verry possible that it happened.

Also, having Westerners showing up for the fight - and getting killed - is great PR for a Ukraine Government trying to drag NATO into this.

Correct, both the Ukies and Ivan are black hats. The Ukies Air Force disappeared, they started issuing weapons to the civilian populace, are crying for a no fly zone, calling for foreign volunteers...they have lost. They realize their military can not protect their citizens. 150,000 Ivan’s out of a military of 1.25 million is nothing, cannnon fodder. The 225,000 thousand Ukie Army will not defeat Vlad’s army of 1 million….unless Zelensky drags the world into WW3.
Stop the war, get to the table and start serious negotiations.Time is getting short.

It seems the bulk of Ukrainian troops are militia, not the regular forces. Between calling up of reservists and the militia, I think the Ukes substantially outnumber the Russians in Ukraine at the moment. The Russians conversely have obvious manpower problems because, so far, they have not chosen to call up their own reservists.
Now, manpower does not translate into offensive power, and the limit to manpower is the number that can be armed, but nonetheless it gives the Ukes considerable defensive capacity as well as opening many opportunities to infiltrate, where ones opponent simply doesnt have the men to keep continuous lines.
To put it simply Russia is badly handicapped vs an opponent willing to go total war (nation en armes) on them.
In that photo I do not see someone I imagine humping a ruck full of ammo and spare grenades quietly in the dark, or being able to dig into a defensive posture quickly enough after a long patrol.

I’m not defending Putin or Russia. But I’m also not falling for the media manipulation of David vs Goliath. Ukraine is corrupt to the core with a sordid past history. They still have a problem with Jews, LBGT, and white supremacy. And yet the media is trying to foment WWIII over a country that is the antithesis of everything the progressive left stands for. Do you ever ask yourself “why?”
