Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed the country's "special operation" in Ukraine at a rally marking the anniversary of the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Moscow's Luzhniki stadium, which hosted the World Cup final in 2018, was packed for the rally, with patriot songs, and crowds waving Russian flags and shouting: "Russia! Russia! Russia!"
Images and video from the stadium showed a sea of red, blue and white flags and banners, with one reading: "For Putin!"
Mr Putin gave a speech from a stage at the venue - after discussing Moscow's military operation in Ukraine with his security council on Friday, RIA news agency cited the Kremlin as saying.
He told the cheering thousands "we will implement all our plans", insisting that the "main purpose" of the invasion of Ukraine is to "save people from suffering and genocide".

The problem with becoming ruled by Russia is all products will fall under Russian control...meaning oligarchs. So, instead of selling to the West for a convertible currency, it will sell at a preset price to an oligarch who will then resell it and pocket the profit. This means less and less product will be produced in the controlled territories and poverty and depopulation will only get worse.
You can’t allow people to immigrate to the west in those circumstances or the controlled territories will be denuded wastelands in no time. (Another “Berlin Wall,” in other words.) A country’s wealth comes from its population. The more people the wealthier the country. It’s the opposite of what the Greens have been preaching for as long as I can remember. The fact that China, for example, has a declining population, is causing such panic in Bejing that the CCP has lied and “invented” an extra one hundred million people who do not exist. The Chinese population will be cut in half somewhere between 2030 and 2050. (Assuming they don’t get into a war and manage to do it sooner.)
All have cups. If you promised free vodka you could fill Red Square with 1 million in 30 minutes to celebrate Groundhog Day.

Wow, that was an impressive vid. The Ukrainian Army is winning respect. The Russian Armed Forces are viewed as incompetent bullies who are getting smacked by the Little Joe they were picking on. Most people don’t like bullies. Most people like to cheer for the underdog.
Perhaps Putin will end up like Beria. I feel for the enemy when young Russian soldiers are made into mincemeat, but Putin’s arrest would be justice served.
