The U.S won the battles but lost the war. Only way you could win a war in that country was to kill everything breathing. And of course that would not be a war, but war crime. Winning a war would look like Japan. Replacement of the militarists with a reasonably stable country. The Taliban control now, just like they did before 2001. Nothing changed after 20 years, trillions of dollars, thousands killed and maimed. That is not winning.

We won the war. A new government came to power. It governed the country for a few years, but was too inept to keep it. We drew down and Biden came along and f**ked up our withdrawal, throwing away all we had accomplished.
