Atmospheric carbon dioxide: A little perspective, please

When President Biden was sworn into office, crude oil was selling for forty dollars a barrel or less. The price was reasonably stable, and gasoline and diesel were affordable for most drivers. Biden came into office preaching the benefits of clean energy and stopped the new drilling on and leasing of federal lands to promote it. As a result, the United States went from being an exporter of crude oil and natural gas to an importer, with a large source of imported oil being Russia. As the supply tightened, producers raised the price, and the crude that was selling for forty dollars a barrel when Biden took office has been selling for up to one hundred and thirty dollars a barrel, and the price of fuels has increased proportionately. The cost of shipping goods has increased to reflect this cost of fuel, which has given the United States a problem with inflation.

Biden has said he can't do anything about solving the problem he caused, by stopping drilling on federal land. It is not a matter of him being unable to do anything. It is a matter of him not wanting to because he believes the carbon dioxide from the exhaust of vehicles burning gasoline is causing global warming. This is what he has been told, not a conclusion he has the knowledge to arrive at on his own.

In 1900, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was 275 ppm (parts per million of volume). With all of the industrialization and increased use of motorized vehicles that occurred in the hundred years leading up to 2000, the carbon dioxide concentration increased to 400 ppm.

There was a Smithsonian special on Arctic Circle glaciers. Of course it was the usual climate porn narrative but they focused heavily on fossilized skeleton they found of a camel dating back a million years, now frozen in the ice. The camel was found to have grass plants in its belly.

The Smithsonian eventually confessed that the Arctic used to be semi- tropical as few as 75,000 years ago.

Stunning hypocrisy in the show and it's doom and gloom climate claims.

To really understand why increasing CO2 is not a problem watch youtube videos by Princeton Professor William Happer.

Why, it's the biggest disaster in human history.

Socialism must immediately be instituted for the little people.

The elites must use more efficient engines on their private jets and yachts. Or at least pretend to.

Even the 275 to 400 ppm number is nothing but junk politics. It was a measurement at Mauna Loa in Hawaii. One place. One measurement, and it has only been recording for 55 years. That’s it.

The value of 400 ppm could have been due to activities around the planet like volcanoes and wasn’t recorded anywhere else.

It’s like the liberal statement they often make that suicide is 7 times more likely in a house with a gun, which that stat was for a single county (King County, WA) that had that stat in one year, but that stat wasn’t found in any other county or any other year.

Thank you, there are so many points of entry into their lie it is hard to know where to start.

Great article. It does put things in perspective > IMO.

The US has become one of the cleaner nations overall. It
has the technology and money to apply it, and our reductions
are better than those in Europe who like to get sanctimonious
on the topic.

Would be nice to see the numbers without burning down cities
though.

No one ever talks about the BENEFITS of a slight warming of global temperatures.

Like less need for winter heating,

like less burning of “fossil fuels” for warmth,

like less cold-related diseases,

Like a longer growing season - ergo more food.

Any more???

Remember the “350” movement? ... Don’t worry, nobody does.

But they’re still out there hustling for money. The site’s current hysteria is all about Ukraine, lol: https://350.org/

The increase to 400 has been verified all over the place. e.g. Barrow

Mauna Loa is an ACTIVE volcano.

From the wiKiKomie page on it:

“From its location well above local human-generated influences, the MLO monitors the global atmosphere, including the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Measurements are adjusted to account for local outgassing of CO2 from the volcano.”

I guess they need it to match up with the temperature monitors around that globe that are located on asphalt.

The Leftist narrative just writes itself. Amazing.

“The increase to 400 has been verified all over the place. e.g. Barrow”

lol. NO, it cannot be verified all over the place. A single measurement at a site can only be verified at that site.

You can’t take a measurement in Hawaii and verify it in Italy.

We made people so stupid in this country they’ve even lost their common sense.

If what you said were true then I could get a CO2 detector and place it on my desk and see 400.

You can’t take a measurement in Hawaii and verify it in Italy.

You can take monthly averages and start to verify. You can take annual averages and see almost complete matching, mainly because the CO2 spreads out In each hemisphere within a year or less. There's a little lag in the Southern Hemisphere.

The scientific consensus about rising CO2 globally was verified in the 60's. e.g. https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1029/JZ070i024p06077. Hard to imagine it being wrong 50 years later. It's possible of course since any science can be overturned. But very unlikely that those measurements had errors.

Their conclusion about fossil fuels was still relatively new then, but has more support since then.
