Oh there is no doubt the A Pillars are larger on SUV’s, that’a a fact, and with larger A pillars you do get a larger blind spot.
Whether it’s the main contributor to more pedestrian accidents or not is another story. My guess is the higher sight lines combined with larger pillars/blind spot are, in combination, to blame.
and all the new trucks come with tinted windows from the driver back.
At any rate, either driver or pedestrian failed to follow the rules of the road and/or weren’t paying attention. I’ve driven 30+ foot long two tons truck that were old with manual steering and brakes. Never had an accident, cut off or clipped anyone or anything.
I haven't noticed overly thick A-pillars on pickups or SUVs - and I have a particular dislike for poor visibility in vehicles. There are some oddball vehicles out there in which I have noticed this problem, such as the recent "retro" Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Heavier profile A-pillars these days seem to have more to do with airbags hidden in there, than vehicle type.
