Ukraine and Russia have made significant progress on a tentative 15-point peace plan including a ceasefire and Russian withdrawal if Kyiv declares neutrality and accepts limits on its armed forces, according to three people involved in the talks.
The proposed deal, which Ukrainian and Russian negotiators discussed in full for the first time on Monday, would involve Kyiv renouncing its ambitions to join Nato and promising not to host foreign military bases or weaponry in exchange for protection from allies such as the US, UK and Turkey, the people said.

I’m assuming Russia gets to keep the Crimea and Donbass.
But asking the Ukraine to limit the size of their military? IMHO, that’d be a non-starter given Russia invaded them.
The Russians have a long history of broken promises. for example, ask the Hungarians about 1956.
So kinda in “NATO” but no NATO weapons or troops allowed in the country.
BUT...if attacked in future, NATO can defend.
They get their security, Russia gets its buffer.
Hmmmmm.
What happens to Crimea, and East Ukraine areas?
If the Russians are still insisting on Ukraine disarming and not getting weapons from the West, it’s a non-starter.
Let’s hope.
Overall that sounds very promising.
Tell it to all the dead troops and civilians.
Never trust the Russians.
“If the Russians are still insisting on Ukraine disarming and not getting weapons from the West, it’s a non-starter.”
Luckily, we have you on the team making these decisions. :)
Yep.
Russia has proven that Ukraine needs a robust military. They should never again allow themselves to be undermanned and undergunned while there remains any possibility of another Russian invasion. I don’t think they believed Russia would ever actually invade them and now they know better. Though going forward I think Russia will think twice about trying it again.
Where will peace leave our Neocons? What will they talk about?
But wait! Biden was just starting to get political capital from this. They can’t be seeking piece already. What were the Democrats do for the midterms
* Ukraine will sign mutual defense treaties with the USA and European powers that will create a situation almost identical to NATO membership.

And even without treaties and alliances, they should be armed to the teeth. The only thing that would stop Putin from trying to finish the job that he thinks is so rightful is pure deterrence. He may have under-estimated both Ukraine and the world’s response once, but he wont make that mistake again.
That they have. The tables were turned on them after they teamed up with Nazi Germany, however.
War with China.
and Biden will say that he brokered the deal, or that Putin caved because of pressure he applied as The Big Guy, and declare peace in our time a la Chamberlain.
No NATO, but EU membership is allowed.
The Ukrainians should insist that the Donbas "republics" be annexed by Russia and Transnistria gets annexed by Ukraine as compensation (I'm sure Moldova would accept that).
No more breakaway areas to provide further Russian provocations.
Ukraine recognizes Crimea's annexation and guarantees the water supply.
If the US were smart (hahaha, stop laughing) we would insist on withdrawal of Russian forces from Belarus as part of the deal (Lukashenko would breathe a sigh of relief). No permanent foreign military presence in either Ukraine or Belarus, return to INF, Conventional Forces, and OSCE treaties. US, France, Great Britain and Germany sign on as guarantors.
Braindead will go there in a couple of weeks and say “mission accomplished!” The Byedone gang has been involved in this from the beginning.
