For years, world leaders have accused Russia of funding environmental groups in Europe to steer nations away from energy independence and strengthen Russia’s iron grip over the continent. As nations across the globe begin shunning Russian oil in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine, U.S. leaders are also questioning how deep Russia’s ties go in the environmental community.
"The Russians actually fund some of the most rabid environmental groups in Europe because they sic them on the energy projects that aren’t Russian," James Carafano, vice president of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at the Heritage Foundation, told Fox News Digital in a recent phone interview.
Back in June 2014, just months after Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine, European leaders sounded off that Russia was using disinformation operations with environmental groups to steer countries away from fracking in favor of Russian oil.

I’m not saying the above about Russia is false (nor do I blame Russia for doing it), but I certainly CANNOT think of a single time that Russia has been signaled out for doing this.
In other words, EVERYONE was happy with what Russia was doing because it advanced their agenda, just like everyone was happy with the Soviets funding the ‘peace movement’ (really meaning surrender movement) during the Cold War.

The Left better be careful with this line of attack against Russia. Now everyone who supports drill-baby-drill can label the ‘Environmental Groups’ as Putin agents.

The UK has found frackable shale in several inland locations but the environmentalists will not allow them to extract it.
The reason you do not hear about shale in France, Germany, Italy, etc is that they are not allowing seismic testing even to locate shale deposits.
Hungary found a large shale deposit in its southern region but faces opposition for extraction.
Israel has found an abundance of frackable shale.
The truth is that shale gas/oil seems to be everywhere and it could be extracted safely and cleanly. Only the anti-oil nuts are preventing nations from finding it and using it.
If Mexico ever gets its act together it could make a big difference in oil supply. Pemex is totally messed up, and getting worse under AMLO.
If the US ever gets the Keystone pipeline done it will allow an increased supply of Canadian petroleum to US refiners, freeing up US oil for export.
If the US gets out of its own way Alaskan oil production will multiply and find a ready export market in East Asia.
Oil SHOULD be cheap. It is just corruption and stupidity that make it expensive.

Environmentalists loved natural gas. Sierra club was a huge proponent of expanding use of natural gas.
That was until natural gas started to be found in abundance right under our feet.
Now they all oppose natural gas.
These are cultists, not reasonable people, which is why they suffer from shortages, dependency and specter of war.

The disinformation effort is far older and deeper entrenched. It was the KGB that originated the anti-nuke movement against civilian nuclear power plants. This was proven when some KGB files were opened during the very early post-Gorbachev years after the collapse of the USSR.
