CLAIM: Members of Congress gave themselves a 21% pay raise in early March.
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Social media users are misrepresenting a government spending bill that increased funding for legislative office budgets, not lawmakers’ salaries. Members of Congress use these budgets to hire and pay staff, and to manage other official expenses. Annual salaries for members of the House and Senate will remain the same this year, as they have since 2009.

“In August, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced staffers’ salaries could exceed those of lawmakers. Members in both the House and Senate, with the exception of leadership, make an annual salary of $174,000. Staffers can make up to $199,300. The MRA increase would allow those at the lower end of the pay scale, such as staff assistants, to be paid more. Members would not receive a pay increase under the bill, a point of contention for years.”
No, they boosted their slush funds.
No matter WHO gets paid, it’s GOVERNMENT getting paid. We don’t need these maggots making more money.
Chuck Schumer has a social media director.
In other words, the 21% pay raise thingee is true, since ApePee decided to “fag-check” it.
More graft money to spread around without dipping into their stipend of $174k. 💸💸💸💸
Out of our pockets.
Financially, increasing their “budget” by 21% is WORSE than increasing their salary by 21%.
Congressman’s salary: $174,000
Congressman’s budget: $1.5 million
No, the boosted the amount their Offices get to run - salaries, ‘expenses,’ and other stuff. Frankly, that’s the place where the biggest theft/kickback enrichment can come from, IMO.
Like hiring your ginger boyfriend or girlfriend, son, uncle, daughter at an inflated salary? hmmmmmm..... Anybody ‘member the bit about Unca Joe getting a kickback on all that???
Exactly
Hum, I have a job for you...salary is X-10% which goes to my political slush fund.
And those bonuses should be tied to:
like THAT is a distinction...
i see, not paying the terrorists more, just buying them better bombs...
They boosted the salaries of their staff. What’s the difference?
Oh well. They only INCREASED their EXPENSE budget by 21%. That’s different, never mind. /s
Must get the facts right.
So now Nutsy can buy even more booze.
Sounds like one of my previous employers who was withholding my 401K contributions from my paycheck but the withholdings never made it into my 401K fund.
Sure, there’s been a hefty increase. But apparently there just hasn’t been a salary increase for Congress in terms of their own personal salaries (which haven’t changed since 2009). The increase is in their office budgets, out of which they pay their staff. Apparently Congress does well enough over all that they haven’t boosted their salaries since ‘09.
Nocely done. I am glad this was claried tho. Makes it hard to debate and reason with the looney left when your po wn side is not telling tye whole truth.
This means, watch, they'll give themselves raises later, on a slow news day, or the same day some other Bidengineered disaster happens. They'll be able to time it, because they'll be aware of the disaster before it happens. Watch 'em, they'll dump their stock portfolios the day before.
