Western countries have come together in surprising fashion, imposing economic and financial sanctions regardless of the damage to themselves. Contrary to Putin's game plan, NATO has become tighter, not looser, as an alliance.
But does this mean that Washington is in a better position as the world's leader? Some analysts argue that while the alliance is stronger, the U.S. itself is weaker, especially because President Joe Biden was unable to stop Putin from invading Ukraine.
...
"Then the president's decision ... to immediately say that we would not be sending armed forces into Ukraine -- Americans into combat in Ukraine -- was a concession that didn't need to be taken off the table, whether we're going to do it or not," Weinstein said.
...
"The Chinese quickly realized: number one, that the invasion was going very poorly," he said. "Number two, that in the eyes of the international community, it was really a terrible liability that Putin and Russia were being isolated and ostracized, and China didn't want to be tarred with that same brush.
"China is now trying to have it both ways," he said. "They want to maintain alignment with Russia for strategic reasons, but they also want to minimize the risk to China from the West and the Western reaction. What they're doing isn't really peacemaking, it's image making."
...
"The Quad is a really interesting point because India is so strident in being nonaligned it's becoming a real problem. Australia, Japan and the U.S. are on the same page on Russia. India's by itself, it's with China," he said. "It's very clear that India is the problem, not Japan."

Bull crap. NATO nations are still not contributing 2% of GDP to NATO. They are not stronger militarily. They still rely on the US. As for the US, Biden and woke generals have emasculated our military. The US is an eff'n joke. They wouldn't be a joke if they actually won wars. That's the bottom line. We either win or lose. There is no other way to measure this.
The Chinese Communist Party should not be at all puzzled that the Joe Stolen/”Que mala” Harris regime is so weak in its response. That is just the way the CCP groomed the US regime to be.
The plan (for the Xi regime) is coming together nicely. Thing is, though, it is moving so much faster than the timetable they had laid out, and America could STILL come alive, given just a little too much of a push.
When the government of Ukraine looks stronger than the American Government, you know Biden has finally succeeded in destroying our once great nation.
“America could STILL come alive, given just a little too much of a push.”
Would have to be a heck of a big push. Consider 52% of Dems would cut and run if the US were invaded.
The USA under Biden is the weakest it has ever been.
The only good news is that the Europeans are filling that void. The world response to Ukraine is being driven in Warsaw, Prague, Berlin and London. Washington no more than a spectator.
It does show that others will resist Russian and Chinese authoritarianism even if America does not.
"Weak U.S.?" I, like, totally dispute that. I mean, senile Sleepy Joe is, by far, "the most popular U.S. President in history," with over 81 MILLION votes for President! And that election was like, really, really, really, really legit .....
Last I heard Germany was still buying Russian energy.
Kinda destroys the “narrative”....
regardless of the damage to themselves. They shut down for 2 years why would this make any difference.
“Last I heard Germany was still buying Russian energy.”
Last I heard Russia was still sending Germany energy to power factories that are building weapons to kill Russians.
Who is the desperate one in this situation?
Biden’s just the cherry on top. Cultural forces have been undermining this country for several generations now.
Seriously?
Germany’s economy is totally dependent on Russia.
This is not difficult to figure out....
I don’t think that’s the new order. The Dems want to get rid of NATO, when they can.
One advantage of their system- they can make a genuinely strategic plan that covers decades and not throw it out the window every 4-8 years.
“..They are not stronger militarily...”
There has been info coming out of Europe that the European countries are ramping up their military. Germany, in particular, last week announced $2B appropriation for military build-up. As we speak they are having joint military exercises. I believe they have gotten the message.
The USA is an occupied country led by a communist puppet.
Why would any patriot want to fight for this corrupt, evil illegitimate regime?
First take out the Clinton/Obama/Biden axis of evil and then we can talk about defending the homeland.
“Germany’s economy is totally dependent on Russia.”
So why hasn’t Putin cut them off yet? Germany is shipping in train loads of weapons to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on all of Putin’s friends and family.
Quiz—how long does it take from appropriation to utilization in the real world?
a. Five years?
b. Three years?
c. One year?
d. Six months?
e. Immediately—because Unicorns and Fairy Dust are real.
One of THE top foreign policy goals for US foreign policy in the next half century needs to be drawing India into alignment with the Anglosphere. India is a budding major power. Unlike China, India is a robust democracy. In fact, outside of Europe + the Anglosphere, India is about the only place in the world that took on board/found compatible, the values of the Enlightenment. They are natural allies but it will take time and smart diplomacy to ensure they end up in our camp. Europe + the Anglosphere + Japan + India is an unbeatable power block. If it ends up that Russia and China can draw India into their power block there really will be two very competitive alliances and that could make for real trouble.
