“On CNN, @SethGJones says US officials estimate “about 6,000 to 8,000 Russian ground-force fatalities” so far.
That would mean “there have been more Russian combat fatalities in just about two weeks of war in Ukraine than the US had in both Iraq and Afghanistan in 20 years.”

And you believe CNN?
the propaganda is thick from both sides!
on the lighter side of things:::
.
U.S.—As the war between Russia and Ukraine rages on, restaurants across the country are now requiring proof of Ukraine support in order to eat in their restaurants. Patrons are being asked to produce a photo ID and open up their social media profiles to prove they have been adequately supporting Ukraine by posting flags and sharing the latest wartime propaganda. https://babylonbee.com/news/nyc-restaurants-now-require-proof-of-ukraine-support

What’s been interesting are the numbers of deaths the Russians are suffering outside the theatre of operations. They’re having an inordinate number of accidents due to poorly maintained vehicles and inadequately trained troops.

Comparisons with A’stan are unrealistic, as it was an asymetrical war. The nearest comparisons are with the first month of Iraqi Freedom where US dominated coalition forces engaged and vanquished the Iraqi Army of c300,000. This with the loss of 180 KIA among US and Brits.
In Ukraine the Russians are facing a well equipped modern regular army ready and willing to defend their country. The Russian forces while well equipped seem to lack the skill and committment of the US and UK regulars. Their leadership seems to have believed the Ukie forces would react much like Saddam’s. Fire and Retire.

“Ukraine’s Anti-Tank Missiles Could See Russia Shift War Tactics”

“A flood of anti-tank missiles sent to Ukraine has potentially changed the course of the war, putting pressure on Russia to find enough capable troops for the grueling urban combat that is now more likely.

For some military analysts, the number of latest generation anti-tank missiles shipped to Ukraine in recent weeks is breathtaking, giving Ukraine’s soldiers an arsenal of these weapons that may be unprecedented in a major modern war.”

Invader Helos at Kherson Airport hit. (I think from artillery strike).

“15 March satellite imagery @planet of Kherson Airport appears to show a number of #Russia 🇷🇺helicopters destroyed or damaged following reported #Ukraine 🇺🇦 strike (46.67358° N, 32.50764° E)”

“Slovakia’s parliament approved the presence of 2,100 NATO troops in the country. The nation bordering Ukraine will host U.S., German, Czech, Dutch, Polish and Slovenian troops, as well as a Patriot missile-defense system, Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad said.

“This is the biggest step for the defense of the Slovak Republic in our modern history,” Nad told the chamber in Bratislava. Ukraine’s Uzhhorod airfield, located just 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from the border, may be the target of a Russian attack, he said.”

Parts of Western Ukraine once belonged to Czechoslovakia.

I would also add there are parts of Western Ukraine that have mostly Hungarian speakers.

True. Orban was upset at some of Ukraine’s language laws.

Of course, more troops to NATO’s eastern flank.

“NATO is set to tell its military commanders on Wednesday to draw up plans for new ways to deter Russia following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, including more troops and missile defences in eastern Europe, officials and diplomats said.”
