Hristo Grozev said about the panic in the Kremlin and the possible timing of the end of the war in Ukraine
In Moscow, panic began due to the lack of a new action plan for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Elites are already openly declaring that Russia's course is suicidal, it is impossible to continue the war, and repressions have begun in the special services of the aggressor country.
This was stated by a well-known investigative journalist, Head of the Bellingcat organization Hristo Grozev in an interview with the Navalny Live YouTube channel. According to Grozev, the Kremlin's short-term blitzkrieg has definitely failed.
According to the journalist, the forecasts that he gave earlier are being implemented. Russia failed the "plan A", which provided for military operations for a maximum of 10 days, and there is no new plan. This is indicated by the lack of a second echelon of troops that could make up for the losses and continue the war at the same pace, as well as the lack of food, water and fuel supplies for those military personnel who are currently on the territory of Ukraine.
Moreover, the Russian troops cannot even retreat quickly, because on the one hand they are pinned down by the "kadyrovites", who were ordered to shoot at deserters, and on the other – by the Ukrainian troops, who are ready to attack in the rear.
"There will be no quick way out, so it is important to understand what is happening inside the Kremlin's elite, the special services, which have now accepted and understood that it is proved that plan a failed. There is a standby mode. Changes are daily, which do not indicate a new strategy," the journalist says.
Several sources confirmed to Grozev that the Kremlin had indeed arrested the head of the 5th FSB service, Colonel-General Sergei Besedin, who was responsible for foreign intelligence-in particular in Ukraine. There is also a leak of internal information from the Federal Security Service of Russia that the department is being repressed.
"The GRU (of the Russian General Staff) has taken a more trusting position towards Putin and is trying to blame its failures on the FSB. This is interesting, because over the past 10 years, on the contrary, the FSB has been trying to gain the trust that the GRU used to have. I don't see a situation in the Kremlin that suggests that the war will continue in a week or two. There will be a shift, the question is what," Grozev believes.
According to the investigator, there are two options for further development of events. First, Putin will reach an agreement with Zelensky on terms much more compromise than originally stated.
"I thought it was unbelievable, but the latest signals from Erdogan and Zelensky that there were suddenly opportunities for an agreement indicate that Putin most likely understands the impasse of the situation," says Hristo Grozev.
The second option is that Putin may decide to strike at the civilian population with non-conventional weapons in order to force Kiev to compromise and show its country the result.
Grozev used to claim that Russia is going to run out of bombs by late February....
Very interesting information since Cristo Grozev has been writing investigative journalism since 2915 with a focus on Russia-related security: the Moscow Times
If true, Sergei Besedin already knows the light at the end of the tunnel is the Putin Train.
Might be Putins reached his objections since the negotiations are continuing to move along as well.
Keivs not in the greatest place but perhaps he’s not going to upend it as he has other cities. Probably still wants some form of Government in a working city.
“”I thought it was unbelievable, but the latest signals from Erdogan and Zelensky that there were suddenly opportunities for an agreement indicate that Putin most likely understands the impasse of the situation,” says Hristo Grozev. “
That is key passage. If Putin was prevailing as his defenders claim, the Russians would not be trying to use the negotiations to sneak back out.
I think you are correct:

I see it as Putins about done with what he set out to do - the fact the negotiations continue going forward at a reasonable clip, pulling away to “determine details”....
Also think he’ll leave a functioning government in Kiev and pretty much in tact infastructure. However what that governing body will look like is another story.
I do think he’ll leave Zelensky in office.
Ive been saying it from the beginning.
You can come in...
...but you can’t leave.
The Ukrainians won’t let Russia dictate any terms as to who is or is not in their government.
Zelensky was already clearing out a lot of the trash in the government - I expect if he stays he’ll continue that. But Ukraine will never be what it was.
I was wondering if Russia would ever find the Brandon files.
(Hypothetical)
Putin: 1.You will announce that the forces of the Russian Federation have defeated the Ukrainian Army. 2. Having acheived victory, all Russian military will withdraw completely except a token detachment in Donbas region to assure Russian speaking minority is protected. 3. Ukrainian armed partisans will cease fire and guarantee safety of withdrawing troops and equipment. You see? You get everything you want and stay respected.
Zelinsky: Nazis destroyed Stalingrad killing unimaginable numbers of citizens and brave defenders - over a million in hours. But Hitler lost and went home. You will too.
The Russian troops are trapped. Spring thaw is right around the corner and comes the Rasputitsa , spring rains. Any vehicle tracked or wheeled, is doomed to the sticky mud that comes with it should they be off road. Both Hitler and napoleon learned this too well. The Russians have come into this dumb. They have forgotten their own land and history.
Or Zelensky realized that this is not a play, and he will get a bad case of dead soon unless the war ends.
There is more going on at FSB and GRU at CIS military HQ in Moscow than most are aware.
And Ukraine has been working to be independent from Moscow much longer than what western society is aware, “bigley” 😎.
Have spent time there, and several other places along the Dnieper (and East and West), all the way to Odessa, on the Черное море (Chyorni Morye), right to the last stone territorial wall built by the Roman’s, going down to the sea.
First however, as anyone can see, by geo location, and by road and river, Kiev was relatively short and easy for subordinate CIS forces to reach.
However, the UA population has long been, or generationally acutely aware (from before UA CCP days, AND since 1991 to the present), of the FSB/KGB and GRU constant threat.
One year after Lenin picked Mao to support and lead Communist revolution across what Lenin hoped would be the entirety of China and Southeast Asia (1921), from 1922 to 1991, even with Ukraine CCP and CIS forced government alignment, Ukraine still has likely lost well over 1100 politicians (and or family members) to various forms assassination, not counting WWII, to keep Ukraine subordinate and aligned with Moscow.
Both countries also know Ukraine was the most involved country within the formal CCCP, in the Reagan forced transition from CCCP to CIS. For example, while they paid with their lives, elements of UA CCP and UA KGB secretly “encouraged” the Polish Solidarity movement (from 1980-1989), encouraging/supporting US involvement within Poland, providing small bits of info, to US assets in West Germany, and thereby to the Reagan Administration.
2 Lubyanka, (a couple blocks from the Kremlin), were made acutely aware of this by their poc’s working from Berlin and Dresden East German offices, no later than 1985/1986, (if not before).
UA CCP ultimately wanted freedom, and even after losing 15 million people, was willing to keep trying - enter a young KGB East German Security Chief, and perhaps Gorbachev’s smartest and most trusted agent, Putin. (Not unrelated - Putin was also partially involved in supporting draft’s of Gorbachev’s global “Green Cross” project, which architected “Global Warmimg/Climate Change structure within the UN, and went on to blueprint Rio to Paris Accords, and included UN-A21)
For many reasons, the people in Kiev and Ukraine are generally significantly more conservative, and far more family oriented than their brothers to the North and East.
Both UA Orthodox, and Evangelical churches are much more prevalent and strident across Ukraine, than Russia, CIS, and most of Central and Western Europe.
This is part of the problem, as CIS member states are CIS subordinate, and since the Alma-Ata protocols have supportive/reciprocal finance, banking, trade, resource management, judicial, and security (battlespace) subordination with Moscow.
Untenable —
Furthermore, Moscow has mandated the ROC as the state church, and except for a few denominational show pieces, has a ban (albeit relaxed compared to formal CCCP days) on other denominations (except Islam in its “respected jurisdictions)”.
Worse, neither KGB ROC Patriarch Kirill (Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev), nor his KGB predecessor Alexy II (Alexey Mikhailovich Ridiger), were able to subordinate the UA Orthodox church under Putin’s regime.
And ROC it is a very useful political instrument -

And Pope Francis was indeed at “Ground Zero” of the KGB’s development and effort to spread “Liberation theology” and “Social Justice” not only within the Roman Catholic Church, but through the World Council of Churches, and was part of the plan to neutralize the churches, and to spread societal division, and to create sexual perversion throughout Western societies.
We were warned of this very real plan and effort by defectors Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Sergei Kordikov (assassinated in California), Yuri Bezmenov, and several others.

In a nutshell, Ukraine is really not on board, and can only be crushed Moscow is to be successful.
