Russian and Ukrainian negotiators said on March 13 that there has been progress in talks to potentially end the more than two-week-long conflict between the two countries, with results coming in days.
The Kyiv government is continuing to demand to “end of the war and the withdrawal of [Russian] troops,” according to Podolyak, who noted that there’s “understanding” and “a dialogue” with Russia.

I guess it took a few fireworks from Russia to FINALLY get the West to push Ukraine to discuss Russia’s concerns. Oh well, whatever.
Give putin NYC in exchange for peace
I’ll bet. 😏
I would not doubt Zelensky was quietly being hammered by Europe and the US to get real and take Putin’s deal. There was too much for Europe, and the world, for that matter, to lose commercially, economically and financially by waiting for Putin to overrun him. Perhaps, slow Joe, as well as the Europeans, joined Vladimir and retained their own hit men in hunting Zelensky down. lol Zelensky might have caved when they said he can keep his job and everyone will call back their hit men. If there is a peace deal, everyone will try to take the credit.
And Ukrainians and Russians are so intermixed, this is a Civil War.
And it started when we supported the coup and the Chocolate King took over. A real Russian hater, he wanted NO MORE RUSSIAN spoken, or taught in schools...He was a monster. He owned all the media...
Or its things just generally getting bad all over. Not everyone in Russia wants to go through a great depression, just to conquer a surly and violent Ukraine, just so Putin can save face. Its going to be hard enough to unwind the economic and financial consequences of all this as it is right now. Russia needs to stop digging its hole deeper, ASAP.
Russia is looking like a paper tiger getting its ass handed to it by Ukraine. Russia can’t afford to lose its entire army just attempting to take Ukraine. They can not take Ukraine and hold it as a puppet state and a long insurgency wold bleed Moscow dry. Putin needs to find a way out and to settle with a divided Ukraine from Crimea to Donbas held as Russian territory and Kiev and all of western Ukraine intact and never part of NATO.
Good. I miss Gutfield show.
So now its not fake news.
Yeah whatever. I think Ukraine has a few more “concerns” with 200,000 or so Russian troops tearing up their country for no good reason except the empirical dreams of the madman in the Kremlin.
A monster? My we have some delusional hatred don’t we? And you can invade a country if they don’t teach your language in their schools? Fascinating.
Wth is wrong with the basic human morality of some people here?
I swear to God some of you seem to have done such a Vulcan mind meld with Mother Russia that you fancy yourselves sitting in the Kremlin railing against those GD Ukrainians.
Screw Putin, Russia and anyone who supports destroying a country.
Ask BobL about how he thinks it’s racist to care about Ukraine because we never worry about Africa.
A crazy racist left wing argument but hey, what the heck.
In social media and the nightly news, sure. On the streets, millions of people are displaced, thousands of noncombatants are massacred, and Putin is still sleeping in a warm bed at night.
Russia doesn't want to occupy Ukraine, it wants some glory-reinforcing territory gains, and maybe a more friendly regime installed in Kyiv. For its part, Ukraine doesn't want to defeat Russia, it just wants Russia to stop advancing. There's probably a pretty good reason that nobody really cared about Crimea being occupied and nobody is talking about that other than to mention that it happened. There's probably a good reason that the Ukrainians haven't bombed the Russian pipelines that run through their territories, or that the EU is sanctioning Poland but still accepting Russian oil, but nobody seems to be talking about that either.
Ukraine will agree to terms either when the Russian advances on Kyiv force a choice between suing for peace or toppling the government. The Russians will agree to terms if the Ukrainian defenses stall the Russians long enough that the Russians will need to start escalating past battlefield rockets and conventional weapons to keep advancing. A war of attrition is romantic, but it's untenable and risks drawing Europe into the war if Ukrainian crops don't get planted in the spring.
Probably Europe bribes Zelensky to accept some negotiated terms of surrender and both sides get to call that a "win" Ukraine fought bravely, Russia gets to annex territory and keep building Nord Stream. Most optimistic scenario is that Putin has to bribe Zelensky for the same outcome. Worst scenario isn't nuclear war, worst scenario is a war of attrition that lasts for a year or more because the Ukrainian government actually starts believing their own press and the financial sanctions create multiple non-dollar world economic standards and central government-controlled digital currencies.
That's a pretty cynical take, but I think it will stand up to history.

“...for no good reason except the empirical dreams of the madman in the Kremlin.”
Russia has the SAME REASON we had to blockade Cuba in 1963. Were we unjustified then?
“So now its not fake news.”
Correct, both the Russian and Ukrainian side are saying the same.
“Not everyone in Russia wants to go through a great depression, just to conquer a surly and violent Ukraine, just so Putin can save face.”
One person here said it best: Russia loses imports of Porsche’s, the West loses most of their fertilizer and much of their energy.
Who loses?
Russia is a lousy consumer market for any exporter. The US and Europe are the global prizes; and whatever transient price shocks there may be, they are in the best shape to ride them out.
Whatever Russia produces can be substituted with little effort, even petroleum, and with rather short lead times. Russia simply holds very few economic cards.
