The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported Saturday night that the security directorate in the west of the country arrested a "spy cell that worked for Israel."

The network acted to "recruit rioters, with the aim of sending sabotage operations inside Iran."

The report from Iran comes as 12 missiles were launched at the American consulate in Erbil in northern Iraq on Saturday night.

There were no casualties or damage to U.S.-owned facilities in the area. A State Department spokesman called it a "scandalous provocation."

A report on official Iranian TV alleged that the attempted strike was intended to target "secret Israeli bases" in Iraq. According to pro-Iranian sources, Fateh 110 missiles were used in the attack.

Two things are highly probable 1) Mossad networks within Iran have not only targeted all critical Iranian nuclear facilities but have managed to plant explosives that can be detonated at any time. 2) They have shared absolutely nothing about their networks or activities with American intelligence. If an overt Iranian sympathizer like John Kerry became Secretary of State and continues to have power, then Israel must assume that people like him exist within the American intelligence apparatus.

“scandalous provocation.”

“Scandalous”? Does the State Department not know that words have meaning and implications, or is there something to this story we aren’t being told?

Possibilities:
1) they are dissing the Iranians by comparing their missile attack to naughty behavior, like getting caught with dancing boys behind the mosque;
2) this is a way of deflecting attention from the real target (such as a nest of spies), while not responding with force since the attack wasn’t really aimed at our consulate;
3) State Dept thinks the Iranians came up with a narrative about an Israeli spy ring as an excuse for an attack to derail the Biden Nuclear Giveaway. They do not want to respond with force, so they demote this to a scandal, and do nothing.

Yes, I remember when the Iranians captured a squirrel and claimed it was an American spy.
