New Reports Suggest Russian Losses in Ukraine Are Absolutely Catastrophic
Townhall ^ | Mar 12, 2022 | Matt Vespa

How many Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine? It’s tough to know. We have Ukrainian sources saying their land has become a killing field for Russian forces, with at least 11,000 killed since the start of the war. It is true that the Russian offensive has become stuck in the mud. Tanks are running out of gas. That 40-mile Russian convoy outside of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has yet to move. What’s going on?

Other estimates of the Russian war dead are in the 4,000-6,000 range which is probably a tad more accurate. Still, that’s more Russians killed in less than two weeks in Ukraine than all American losses during the entirety of the Iraq War and occupation. The Ukrainians are holding on, mounting a dogged defense against a superior adversary. We’ll see how long that lasts after the Russians clinch air superiority which they have so far been unable to do.

Yet, let’s circle back to the 10,000-plus Russian war dead figure. Keep an eye on it. We have reports of hospitals in southern Belarus that are totally filled with Russian bodies. There’s allegedly not enough refrigeration. Bodies are starting to rot. This also circles back to the story about the Russian military wheeling in mobile crematoriums to cook the books on their casualty rates. We may never know the true death toll. There’s also the suspicion that mass graves for dead Russian soldiers are also being dug to hide the true body counts.

We’ll see how this turns out. There’s propaganda flying on both sides, and in a region of the world where media is heavily controlled by the state—take certain things slowly. Russian intelligence officials have warned that their military is heading for total disaster in Ukraine. The Russian operation has been less than stellar. They are taking heavy losses. How heavy remains to be determined. If these reports are true, the death toll for Russia has been catastrophic.

The Ghost of Kyiv has 13,427 confirmed kills alone.

Even at 4K to 6K...that would be humiliating to the Russian armed forces.

What we think of as catastrophic and what the Russians would think of as catastrophic are two very different scenarios. If we had invaded and had losses like the Russians, we would already have either pulled out or simply nuked Ukraine to hell, but human life in the “defense” of the motherland is held cheap in the Kremlin.

Regardless of what the death toll is, which they’ll hide forever, the Russians are attacking farther and farther to the West. They might just lose all the way to the Polish border.

Not surprising as WW2 was a prime example of that, took Stalin 2 years to find Generals that knew how to fight..Always thought the Soviet army was a paper tiger.

Isn’t that interesting? They have such a small population for their landmass yet they are willing to sacrifice all those young men. My heart breaks for all those Russian moms.

Townhall is neoconservative in orientation, so it is likely to repeat pro-Ukrainian information uncritically. But the Russians, whether under the Tsars or the Communists, have been willing to risk high casualties. Sometimes that works. It did for Ulysses Grant in the Civil War. But Sometimes it just leads to senseless carnage, asin World War I.

And that was a great deal due to the 1930s purges which imprisoned or killed many generals.

Based on what I heard this story is a cheap propaganda. 3/4 of the wounded admitted in Belgorod are Ukrainian POWs, the rest are a mix of Russians and LDNR militia.

I'm following "Ukraine Weapons Tracker" on Twitter. It's updated constantly with new film and ATGM videos. Like several per hour.

[If there was similar video from the Russian battle perspective, I'd post that too, but I can't find any.]

It seems like armor is a death trap in 2022.

Did Russia walk into a major paradigm shift trap?

Like late-19th-Century African natives charging Maxim guns? It sure doesn't help that March is Mud Season in Ukraine, and much of the armor that moves off the paved roads gets stuck, and is then abandoned.

This reply was sent to me on Gettr, Corpsman has a point.

-——Mobile crematoriums——

Now that’s a scary concept, especially in Ukraine where both Germans and Russians massacred thousands later proven by the unearthing of massive burials.

Imagine...... I learned a new term. Inurnment. In Moscow there is a monument to the inurnment of an unknown soldier

Stop watching Russian propaganda. They haven’t gained a foot of ground in the last week.

The biggest threat to Putin is that Russians don’t like to lose wars; thus, you had Nicholas II overthrown largely bc of the catastrophic Russo-Japanese War and WW1; the Soviets were out of it bc of Afghanistan. I suspect that the news of their losses is spreading throughout Russia; all they need is a new Gen. Zhukov to change the power structure. Who will we get in power is a mystery - with 6800 nuclear warheads in that country and no effective ABM system here, we may long for Putin.

It’s an interesting question, can the Russians apply Soviet self-attrition tactics in the smartphone/internet era?

You can hide some bodies, maybe, but you can’t hide the burnt skeletons in all the wrecked armor.
