With Ukraine under siege, Biden moves to revoke Russia's trade status
ABC News ^ | March 11, 2022 | LIBBY CATHEY

Stepping up the economic pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin as he continues to attack Ukraine, President Joe Biden announced Friday that in conjunction with other G-7 nations and the European Union, the U.S. will move to revoke "most favored nation" trade status for Russia.

"As Putin continues his merciless assault, the United States and allies and partners continue to work in lockstep to ramp up the economic pressures on Putin and to further isolate Russia in the global stage," Biden said from the White House. "Revoking PNTR (permanent normal trade relations) for Russia is gonna make it harder for Russia to do business with the United States."

The move to strip Russia of its favored nation status would allow the U.S. and others to impose tariffs on a wide range of Russian goods.

Biden also announced the U.S. is banning the import of certain goods from Russia, including seafood, vodka and diamonds, and said the G-7 is adding new names to the list of targeted oligarchs it was sanctioning.

"Putin is the aggressor. He cannot pursue a war threatening the very foundation to the international peace and stability and then ask for financial help," Biden said, adding that the U.S. will speak to the G-7 about Russia's ability to borrow the interpreter national monetary fund and world bank.

Russia and China shouldn’t have favored nation status to begin with.

Here's AB-CIA newswhore Libby Cathey in kindler, gentler times, when the important CIA thing was to bash Orange Man Bad and withhold effective covid treatments from Americans:

Trump says he's taking hydroxychloroquine, unproven drug he's touted for COVID-19

"unproven"
"touted"

TOTALLY not an opinion article disguised as "news"...

Wouldn’t it be nice if America stayed neutral in foreign affairs, and tended to its own gardens whose gates are overran with weasels from India and LBG’s from South of Texas? We the People, would be better off without the American Empire. After all, isn’t that the promise of American exceptionalism? Not that we can kick anyones buildings down, kill many people. It is that we show the best way forward. Strong borders, tariffs to trade with us, and self government, which we have not had for over a century.

??? WTF? After we found out China was stealing naval technologies, a direct harm to the USA, we never removed their trade status. But we do it against a country that is NOT at war with us?

You are naïve enough to believe Russia doesn’t have hundreds if not thousands of operatives working hard to steal our military technologies?

Got any more gems like that?

Back in December, all these actions and more should have been announced as “will go into effect immediately if Russia invades Ukraine.” After all, Blinken says we knew the invasion was likely, and that’s actually one from him I am inclined to believe.

We the People, would be better off without the American Empire.

That depends on what you mean by "empire". I assume you are referring to US influence post WW2.

"Better off" is only if you consider high radiation levels, probably starting in the '60's and refreshed a time or two since, better off. Among other things.

You give us a great example of the result of ~50 years of no real sense of history and human nature or even evil itself being taught in our schools...

Yeah, they are TRYING. China actually succeeded. China has been waging an economic and intelligence war against the USA for decades. Russia poses no direct threat to us and China does.

Does Communist China not deserve being cut off from the special trading status, if only for them running concentration camps where they torture, murder and sell the organs from the Uighurs? There is also some Himalayan countries that do not exist because the CCP overwhelmed them? They sent us and the world a bioweapon, withheld information about it, and sent out flights with infected aboard. Covid 19 ring a bell? China is evil personified, yet we call Dictator Xi, “the most honorable President of China”.

Between China and Russia, Putin and Xi, who is evil who is good? Keep in mind that when a person approached Christ Jesus, and said to him “Good Teacher ......” Christ says, NO ONE IS GOOD, but God in Heaven.

Ukraine is a puppet state of the Western Powers. We ran a successful coup attempt, and have been supporting this “poorest of European nation” for years. The West wants to run NATO right up to Russian borders, and encircle this nation. Would you allow Russia to do this to Canada and Mexico? Would you threaten war, and eventually begin a war? Keep in mind that the US was running bio-chemical labs right on the border. Why not here maybe in Kansas, far from terrorists and masses of people? BECAUSE WE CAN HIDE NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES. How likely is it that those labs are funded by the CDC, NIH and Fauci? Who do you believe?

How would the US keeping a strong military, but tending to Domestic matters, stop us from having advanced weapons systems. You can do both, without interfering directly into the affairs of Chile, Nicaragua, Iraq, Libya the Congo, or even in South Africa. To say nothing of Korea, or Vietnam. Given a few years after WW 2 to rebuild Europe, then make weapons available for them to purchase, they could have easily held off Russia. American v Soviet brinkmanship, did not make the world safer. It kept the world on edge for decades, and is still being used as a trigger mechanism for both sides.

The proofs are identical for American Empire and being the world policeman post 1945, and the mRNA treatments stopping American deaths. It is unknowable if it help, but 30 trillion in debt, and a country shut down for.....maybe forever, is pretty convincing to me.

Get back to me when you are driving the only car you can purchase, and “Big Brother” decides you are not a good citizen, and shuts it down.

Tell me then how free you are.

They eject the police, and military for not taking an EUA shot that is now proven to be more deadly than the thing it purported to stop. I put forward the proposition, that the same is true of the continuation of the American Empire.
