China locks down city of 9 million amid new spike in cases

China on Friday ordered a lockdown of the 9 million residents of the northeastern city of Changchun amid a new spike in COVID-19 cases in the area attributed to the highly contagious omicron variant.

Residents are required to remain home, with one family member permitted to venture out to buy food and other necessities every two days. All residents must undergo three rounds of mass testing, while non-essential businesses have been closed and transport links suspended.

The latest lockdowns, which also include Yucheng with 500,000 people in the eastern province of Shandong, show China is sticking to the draconian approach to the pandemic it has enforced for most of the past two years, despite some earlier indications that authorities would be implementing more targeted measures.

highly contagious omicron variant

Locking down a city of 9 million for what is basically the common cold?

At this point in the "pandemic" that gives me a very bad feeling. Something's up.

“At this point in the “pandemic” that gives me a very bad feeling. Something’s up.”

This is very weird. They have to know that that some form of the virus is going to make the rounds there, eventually, and Omicron is certainly the mildest...so why fight it. Even Fascist governments (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and New York) figured that much out.

The media’s fear porn is no longer working.
Nice try, though.

Is the city still big in auto manufacturing?

If so, wonder if that will take a hit, too...

--- "...ordered a lockdown...."

As of 11 March 2022,

China is reported by Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center, 7,786 deaths in a population of 1,448,660,161.

The mortality rate for this Chinese data is as of today 0.00053 %.

Source: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/region/china

By comparison, worldometers still reports total deaths of 4,636.

Reuters talks of "symptomless cases" and Associated Press says "All residents must undergo three rounds of mass testing, while non-essential businesses have been closed and transport links suspended."

Given the comparative economic success of hindering Western economies through Western nations' voluntary lockdowns, now withering away, I suspect this fear porn is another attempt by China to encourage Western nations to again lockdown economies as a matter of "monkey see, monkey do."

"Symptomless cases and mortality rates far below what a "pandemic" actually used to mean suggests this has been and continues to be the generation of media hysteria to affect world economies and "lockdowns" and "test, test, test" for the benefit of the very few. So many of them are Chinese Communist billionaires.

There are indeed Chinese Communist lockdowns as AP reports, and they are for "symptomless" disease.

What disease is without symptoms and shows a mortality rate as of today of 0.00053 %?

The con. The flimflam. The three card monte. The sting. A show for the rubes.

Remember when we were told by elites and liberals how badly Florida handled the Virus? Here we are down south with pretty much normal lives and China is LOCKING DOWN CITIES 2 years later . . .

Thank you Gov. DeSantis!

so why fight it

From a public health standpoint, you are correct. The best strategy is to let Omicron run its course. However, China has a lot invested in (after Wuhan) never having another large-scale outbreak. The Chinese people are full of pride that they handled their virus better than others. And Xi is setting up to start a third term later this year, so they will not upset the narrative before then.

Start spreading rumors to China’s northern army that the southern army is harassing, starving, beating and killing babies and grandparents in the north. See if the wimpy ChiComm political officers can restrain the troops.

So what’s the flimflam bottom line? Is this simply a way to build a DNA database of the entire Chinese population? Are the test swaps inoculating the population with virus to try to create herd immunity? This can’t just be about Draconian control anymore. The CCP doesn’t do anything that won’t profit the CCP. I guess my mind is ill-equipped to grasp the end-game of this cunningly evil plan.
