Better.com employees got severance checks before they were laid off

The firm that laid off nearly 900 employees on a mass Zoom call has reportedly fumbled another round of company layoffs.

TechCrunch reported Tuesday that a portion of the 3,000 or so Better.com employees who were set to be laid off this week received pay slips for their severance checks — before they were told they were going to be laid off.

The company uses the Workday payroll system, and the paychecks were put into the database on Tuesday, when the news of their layoffs was just hitting national headlines. No further information was provided to employees, an anonymous worker told TechCrunch.

A company spokesperson confirmed to SFGATE that "despite careful planning, a small number of employees were unintentionally notified of their separation from the company ahead of schedule when severance payment information was made available through either our internal payroll system or their financial institutions."

The spokesperson also said that the severance checks were placed into the Workday system early "to ensure that impacted employees received severance payments as quickly as possible."

Uh, ouch. I hope this company is better at their business than they are at sacking their employees.

LOL. Makes you wonder how competent anyone in that company is at their jobs.

I have nothing but bad experiences with the people at Better.com I dealt with over a year and a half.

I could never get the rate they advertised, despite the adjustments they said they would do, for a mortgage refi.

I went through this with them multiple times over that period.

There’s no way I would trust them again. We ultimately went with a small firm that kept their listed rate and had absolutely no issues.

Better.com needs to lay off the New York City people I dealt with.

If they weren’t so busy trying to figure out ways to further HATE Trump and everyone who supports him, they may have figured out that their days were numbered.

So I have no sympathy for them.

I hope this company is better at their business than they are at sacking their employees.

With all these rounds of layoffs, I would suspect not.

It’s 2022. If you fire all the incompetent people, we’ll have like 90% unemployment.

I don't care who you are. That right there is funny.

Anyone who doesn't know only the first paycheck and in this case the last one is early deserves it.

Where I worked in the Help Desk we would sometimes get a phone call from someone saying they could not log in. We would check and see their account was disabled. Their manager did not bother to notify them....

Oracle ceo Larry Ellison was known to fire people by email.
