Russia says its businesses can steal patents from anyone in ‘unfriendly’ countries
The Washington Post ^ | March 8, 2022 | Zina Pozen

Russia has effectively legalized patent theft from anyone affiliated with countries “unfriendly” to it, declaring that unauthorized use will not be compensated.

McDonald’s said Tuesday that it would temporarily close its 850 restaurants in Russia, a significant decision for a company that gets 9 percent of its revenue from Russia and Ukraine. Without trademark protections, Russia could “take those McDonald’s that got shut down and … just let local operators operate the restaurants and call them McDonald’s,” Gerben said.

Russia’s removal of intellectual property protections during wartime is not without precedent. Smithsonian Magazine describes how the German company Bayer lost its American patent on aspirin as the U.S. government seized property from firms associated with its enemies.

9% of sales, 3% of profits. The hit to sales is higher than to profits because McDonald’s owns and operates almost all of the locations in Russia, unlike the more lucrative franchise model in much of the rest of the world.

Just like during the Cold War: The Russians would invent everything for themselves, also - and first, too!

I admire Putin’s acumen regarding the LGBTQ World HomoMafia Dictatorship, and how they operate.

They’re in bed with the Global Matriarchy as well -

Nobody is going to try luring investors back. 30 years of gaslighting was enough and Russia made a civilizational choice. Her resources aren’t going to feed the West.

If Russia goes down this road they are looking increasingly like a Chinese client state

Russian farming is pretty much limited to wheat, Russia can’t feed itself.

After so many years of unsuccessfully being a Western client it is worth trying to play with China. It can’t get any worse.

Oh you poor soul, China can very much be worse for non-Han people, and then there is the social-credit system that no doubt is shaping people’s thinking about how to judge others. China is the realization of everything Putin is currently complaining about, out of the frying pan and into the fire.

You know what is the difference between China and Russia vis-a-vis the West in the foreign policy? They don’t tell their allies how to run their railroad. It is a sovereign matter.

I had a Russian history professor. We got along like oil and water until I realized that he was just trying to get through the layers of b.s. I had grown up with, so that I could understand Russians better. He was an interesting guy and I was a bit young to be flexible enough in my thinking, but for some reason he made an effort for which I an indebted. I like Russians. I don’t want to see bad things happen to them. Putin really does need to go.
