LONDON (Reuters) - Russia on Thursday shifted its stance over the bombing of a Ukrainian hospital in the city of Mariupol, with a mix of statements that veered between aggressive denials and a call by the Kremlin to establish clear facts.
Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy said three people including a child had been killed in the bombing on Wednesday, and rejected Russian assertions there had been no patients there.
"Like always, they lie confidently," said Zelenskiy, who has accused Moscow of waging genocide in the war it launched two weeks ago.
In the face of worldwide condemnation there were rare signs of inconsistency in the response from Russian officials, who since the start of Moscow's invasion on Feb. 24 have stuck tightly to the same narrative for what Russia calls its special military operation in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked for comment in the immediate aftermath, told Reuters on Wednesday: "Russian forces do not fire on civilian targets."
On Thursday he said the Kremlin would look into the incident.

Did Russia strike a legitimate target, or was it really a functioning hospital?
If there were armed, healthy fighters present it was a legitimate target. And a crime to have them there.
If not, a crime to hit a hospital. Unless by accident.
The US has made such mistakes multiple times and nobody ever paid a penalty.
“Like always, they lie confidently,” said Zelenskiy,....
Very rich.
Lavrov eariler said the Ukeys bombed it themselves...then he
said it was empty and had Ukey soldiers...
So Ukraine bombed their own soldiers?
They cant keep track of their lies.
Coincidence?
Nice try. Would you provide links to back it?
“Like always, they lie confidently,” said Zelenskiy
Pot calling the kettle black?
Congratulations. Your Hero of the Soviet Union medal is in the mail for you.
The photo looks like one shell hit in a courtyard outside the building. Building had windows blown out and fascia messed up in a large area of the wall but not a direct hit on the building itself from the looks of it. No holes in the building.
Probably an inadvertent event.
More disinformation from the AP.
I have no doubt the Russians probably shelled the hospital as it’s a war zone after all. I doubt they did so intentionally and it was a misfire/mistarget of sorts.
At this point it doesn’t matter. Biden has thrown us into WW3
It’s no doubt Mariupol has a serious problem with the Azov group (neo-natzi) who are brutal toward Russians.....they’ve had this long before the current conflict. Also Odessa does as well. I recall articles about this over the past years in Ukraine’s conflicts.
What was his “stance” on the Afghani people last year?
“So Ukraine bombed their own soldiers?”
The logical explanation is that Ukraine was conducting/harboring military assets in a hospital and Russia hit it.
OR
Russian soldiers are murderous blood-thirsty baby killers. So they sought out and targeted a maternity hospital.
"Right-Wing White Supremacists", right there with our January 6th guys and gals, right?
Haven’t heard anything come of Xiden’s oopsie dron strike in Afghanistan that killed 10, including 7 children.
I put photos of this on the Matrix thread.....it was not a direct hit but the type of bomb that hit in the courtyard left a huge crator and indeed the blast rocked the hospital nearby.
Eff you
And I hope you get the invitation to WW3 you warmongers so desperately desire.
They have been around a long time. Lots of stories of these guys from back in 2014, but there was an underground dating back to WW2.
It goes back to Stalin - well, earlier, but Stalin was the worst of it. The Ukes were devastated by Stalin (see “Harvest f Sorrow”, Robert Conquest), to the point that many took to cannibalism. So they developed a lasting hate for the Soviets and the Russians. So much so that they sided with the Nazis when they showed up. Some of that is still around today, as you see.
Lots of reaping of whirlwinds and chickens coming home to roost and sins of the fathers and so on all over the place.
Sounds like Bidens communication issues with the public and his administration differences when reporting. Senate hearing had brought this up on who in this administration is telling the right thing.....too many differing statements.
I suspect Russia too has that issue. It’s a military conflict and not everyone is on the same page there or here....and Zelensky’s in the center.
